ariock tagged me. I guess I’m game.
Things you enjoy, even when no one around you wants to go out and
play. What lowers your stress/blood pressure/anxiety level? Make a list,
post it to your journal… and then tag 5 friends and ask them to post
it to theirs.
1. Reading. Good fiction always reduces my stress level.
2. Photography. Getting into the groove with a good subject
is, for me, like martial arts for others. In those moments, my
‘overmind’ is left to wander and wonder because my ‘undermind’ has
become completely dedicated. This goes as well for other creative acts,
but photography holds a special place.
3. Great Coversation. I don’t care that the rules say “even
when no one around you wants to go out and play,” good philosophical,
self-aware, objective and subjective conversation is a life-sustaining
thing for me, and my closest friends engage in these things, often. For
instance, though I hadn’t seen him in a number of years and we rarely
spoke in between, last night I met with BJ and we spoke for three hours
about deep concepts of motivation, self-esteem, business, pleasure,
photography, and long-term life goals.
4. Goal creation and accomplishment. Sometimes I just make up
a goal, even one as minor as pushing myself to run another quarter-mile
or to make dinner for myself instead of going out to eat. I take
pleasure in controlling my fate in what ways I can, and that helps to
mitigate the frustration and stress related to the ways I cannot.
5. Music. I have music for every mood. You’d think I’d have
an instrument I play professionally, considering how much I listen to
and care for what I consider the modern-day equivalent to poetry; alas,
I can play the digeridu and nothing more. I would have to have 30 hours
a day and no job in order to learn all the things I desire to learn.
Anyway, sometimes I couple this with driving, or a work-out, or
chatting, or even meditating, but the common element is the music.
I am honor-bound to tag five people.
childe, silverbriar, silver_bits,
myopicgreen, renniekins, honor me by telling me
about what you enjoy, please. :)
I like memes like this that promote thinking about things we should all
be thinking more about, anyway. The bonus tag goes to revelation8 ;). If you happen to look at LJ, riddle me this.
:)
Re: your #1 and #2, I totally agree! Good friction always reduces MY stress level too! And I am a HUGE fan of pornography!
I mean….what?
*grins* Well yes, that is certainly something one can do alone. :)
