A reply from my old High School Principal
I didn’t particularly enjoy high school except insofar as my communion with the geekerati went (you BBsers know who you are), but the assistant principal there kept me from getting into serious trouble, and he kept up the faith, even though my GPA plummetted so low, I almost didn’t graduate.
He’s the principal, now, and that pleases me. I dropped him an email on a whim the other day, just to let him know what I’ve been up to, and to make sure he understood that he really made a difference. I wondered if he would remember me. His reply:
How great to hear from you! I am not surprised at all at your achievements…you always were so bright, so passionate about things you were interested in…and, you are such a kind, decent person! Congratulations on your degree and job! And please know how much your email means to me…I certainly don’t deserve the kudos you passed along, but they were nice to hear. I will send your address info along to our alum people. Take care!
As Always,
Rick
…shit, I’ve been telling everyone what a jerk I was in school. He’s gonna ruin my reputation.
*pleased*
hahaha awesome. he doesn’t sound like a jerk at all now. stupid adults. hehe
I love how teachers, especially the good ones, don’t even realize how much of a positive effect they have on thier students.
I had some teachers that probably completely changed and guided my life, and they had no clue or belief if/when I told them. Perhaps, now, I should think about doing just that.
If you want, I can pretend to be another teacher and give a testimonial saying you were a jerk… it might balance the scales and protect your rep. This is a draft for you to consider and suggest changes to…
“He was the reason I finally took that early retirement offer. No single hooligan gave me as much to discuss with my therapist. I am saddened by the state of this world that has allowed him to prosper.”
That should cement you as a problem child.
Whew! Can I take you to my ten-year reunion?
