Phone Post from an excellent Ren Fest Evening
Wow, quite the day.
After karaoke last night, I slept in late, and I was still smacking my lips and rubbing my eyes when Megan insisted I go to Ren Fest. We’re talking, 3pm here. It’d be 4 before I left, 5 before I got there, and they close at 7. I’m like, “no.” She says, “I’m wearing an awesome corset, with bouncing boobies.” I say, “You present a compelling and cogent argument.”
So I bust out of here at 4:15, making it through the nastiness of one-way bridges in Fenton in time to cruise past the Rennie Security at 5:30p. Let me tell you, I was smooth. I wasn’t about to pay for an hour and a half of fun, my good sirs and ladies!
I very briefly saw bob_the_mighty, and after making sure he was well taken care of, I made the rounds. Angie and Chuck and Tomak and Stefan, who I only see once a year at fest. Yes, Sydney, that Stefan. I chilled out with Megan and her friend until 6:50, and then left them to their own devices. She’d invited me to dinner, but I could tell I was already monopolizing the conversation with her, so I figured I’d be nice and let him get a word in edgewise. ;)
Instead, I chilled with the Nethercraft crew until it was time for the various post-fest parties. First, the 50th birthday/25th Rennie Year for the Mayor, which involved some fine foods of many varieties. Then, the benefit to help pay the medical bills of rennies hurt in the hurricane. I contributed a few dollas and some muscle power, but I did not win the bridal gown in the raffle, damn it!
Thanks to thatguychuck‘s persistence, not only did I meet many new people, but received numerous head rubs and big hugs. It’s all your fault, you bastard. :) :) :) What was the name of the Insulter, again? That made the night totally worthwhile.
Of course, the Fire Poi exhibition was pretty fucking awesome, too. It was rather amazing, particularly whatever she was doing with the flipping onto and off of her thighs, and the laying-backwards-on-her-knees with the poi a fraction of an inch from her chest, and then her back. Awesome.
Walking back through the park, in the middle of the night, with the half-moon… it was an amazing moment in time. I know I can’t do it justice. I really felt at peace, for some reason. Passing the metalworker’s kiln, though, was my absolute favorite part of the walk, with the orange glow lighting the booth in an ancient way.
I’ll probably go back tomorrow, since I’ve been pleaded with to make a repeat appearance – this time, in costume. That’s if I can get out of bed at 8 am. Later tomorrow evening – drag queens in lansing, methinks, with diana, benny, and whoever else. :)
This is why I love being me, most of the time. :) “What? Leave -right now-? I haven’t done the wash, I need to vacuum, I haven’t shaved my head…. okay. :) Let’s go!”
I’m sorry I missed the Mabon event in lansing, but I must admit I’ve always wanted to hang during a rennie party. ;) Chuck kept introducing me by saying, “We’ll suck him in, yet!”.
I have no comment.
I don’t think that is quite how the conversation went, but OK ;P
And just doesn’t talk period, so you cannot exactly monopolize the conversation ;P
