“Our thoughts compressed, which makes us blessed, and makes for stormy weather”

It looks like a heavy fog outside the windows of Crain Central, today, only slightly more granular, because of course it is snowing like Charles Dickens. I can see the 6-floor-tall streetlights, and they’re no longer on like they were at 11 am, so I have to presume it is waning.

I took my time getting in to work, and I think my point regarding “Better late and safe than reckless and dead” was well-received.

Today I do more fakery with the “chinese” newsletter, as well as work on Automobilwoche, the German site that we maintain for our german peoples over there in … Germany. Did I mention that I don’t read german?

Those of you who have to maintain a site created by someone else, don’t you occasionally have the overwhelming urge to just overhaul it? It’s sort of a feeling of pity, like “No group should have to exist with a web site this ugly.”

I forgot Athena at home, and this pains me deeply. I ache for that special moment in which I may once again insert the earplugesque earbuds into the proper orifii and drown out the whining of my compatriots.

While I’ve never had that experience, I’m sure I’ve caused it a number of times.

I work within 10mi of where I live… it still took me 3x longer than normal to get to work this morning, and I can avoid freeways. I still remember my Dearborn to Ann Arbor commute after I left NTT… it was bad in the summer, even worse in the winter. You have my commiseration.

Heck, I think that about websites *I* created anywhere over two years ago!

  3. haha seeing as everyone’s commenting on the same paragraph, I’ll follow suit…

I hear ye about the website thing. I had to do that a couple of time at my last job, and it wasn’t fun. Every part of me recommended some to be redone from scratch, and most of the time they trusted me :). (hey, if a client is unhappy enough to come to another developer, then the site probably isn’t all that good itself, but it costs to overhaul it, so you’ve gotta be convincing enough to get them to agree).

And same here too – I feel like others will be doing that with some sites I designed :). But that’ll be the same with any developer really – it’s easier to make your own project then maintain someone else’s. *shrug*

  4. A friend with breasts and all the rest…a friend that’s dressed in leather.

Yah. Agreed on the ugly website front. Luckily, they took down http://www.fortresscomics.com so that nobody has to maintain my slop. *grins*

I know if one I’d love to overhaul though. WillowWind Stables Website. Right now it’s complete with bad midi music, animated doodads, and random pictures. Makes me crazy. And the . Argh!

I guess I never realized you worked for Crain. I get junkmail from you guys all the time at work. =)
