Leopold Brothers, January 28th – My 28th
Firstly, my place is clean, I have stools that stack for when I have extra guests (11 places to sit instead of 7! rock on), and a nice wood shelf for organizing the inside of my closet. Also, my diploma is framed beautifully, and I have a nice grey, silver, and black pushboard for pictures, memories, postcards, whatever. Thanks, ma!
Next, I had folks over to my house for a sort of Pre-Leo’s shindig, which involved toying with my new game from Debra and Brian (Pharaohs and Lasers! It has another name, Deflexion, but I’ll be calling it Pharaohs and Lasers! forevermore), cheese and chips, and teeny cans of coke. Oh, and Polarity Shenanigans. Everyone was in their finery, but I think no one can deny that Mrs. Chaffins was smokin’ hot this fine evening. It’s so cool to have a friend like Lucy live so close by, ’cause she and Hagen just tooled on over, no trouble. Dean arrived to add to the silliness, and drove me out to Leo’s when it was time for craziness to ensue.
People quickly piled in at Leo’s, and in rather short order I found that I was surrounded by awesome people. My people. *cheesy grin* I tackled someone at the door, and after looking around they said, “So who is with us?” I declared, “They are all my people. Join the flock, my son.”
I played a few rounds of Apples to Apples over the evening, but until we shrunk in size, I was far too distracted to pay attention. I must say that the game with T0astbandit, her boy, and IvyNova was one of the most hilarious games of Apples to Apples I’ve ever played. They were fucking sick! … and by sick I mean awesome.
(this isn’t even vaguely in chronological order)
I insisted that people lay out LJ name plates, and by plates I mean the paper variety. Some people were… creative in their plate locations. When Chuck discovered that the cake was cut and nothing had been said, he took it upon himself to open up those lungs of his and get things moving. When I was called upon to give a speech, standing upon the table, I was too affected by the sea of welcoming faces to even say thank you. … so I took it upon myself to make sure everyone knew how much I appreciated them, one at a time. More my style, anyway, I guess.
I think part of what makes it so great for me, actually, is knowing that everyone was having a great time. I remember telling (chuck? anne?) while I was taking pictures with my cell that THIS was the moment I wanted to remember, when I look around me and everyone has mixed and matched, straying outside of their known social groups to meet and enjoy new people.
Of course, that doesn’t explain the ridiculous number of “Oh my god! I know you!”‘s that occurred that evening, such as Anne and Chris, who used to go to school together.
I danced and sang with Katrina to our favorite Leo’s song (The Mariner’s Revenge), which always gets us some delightfully weird stares; I hugged and kissed a good 30 people, at least; I had a RAZR BATTLE with Chris; I exchanged T-Shirt Geek Communications with Katester and Megan; Benniferus took it upon herself to make sure I was drinking, and wasn’t paying (with a hearty helping by Alex, who thought I should drink Drano with Coconut (which was rather tasty); I received two tacklehugs of epic proportions from Cheryl; I somehow compensated for the terrible affront of not answering my phone with a hug; In fact, I plied my affection everywhere, and was well-received; did I mention cathar-tastic cleavage-y hugs? :D
Thank you to everyone who could make it and even everyone who tried to make it but couldn’t. I didn’t have a less-than-happy moment the entire evening. If I’d had my druthers at speech-time, I would have said simply, “Thanks for coming. I love you.”

Anne: did you have a good night last night?
atdt1991: I couldn’t have had a better night if there were strippers on trapezes.
Anne: :)
Anne: especially since the ceiling wasn’t that high… I bet strippers on trapezes would have kept kicking people in the head accidentally. would have been a mess..
atdt1991: Oooh… let’s hope they wouldn’t wear pointed shoes.
Anne: but they always do!
atdt1991: *shakes head, tsking* they always do.
Anne: with spikey heels. I think it’s trademark.
Happy belated! I am glad you had a great time!
Thanks, Krystyn! :D After I make a few mil, I’ll fly all my far-flung friends to my birthday parties. ;) So, at least you have that to look forward to. *grins*
maybe we can start looking now for strippers on trapezes for next year…;)
Rats…it looks like Wren’s is the only one I can read.
Last night was wonderful. You do so much for your friends, and it just warms me to my toes to see them all come out to let you know you’re well loved and appreciated. You had me call to tell Leo’s to expect about 25 folks, but I think you had a lot more than that who showed up, handsome.
I loved finally getting to put some faces to the names I hear you talk about so often. I’m looking forward to seeing a lot of folks I met last night again.
Do you have the feeling like this is going to be an incredible year for you? I know I do.
I’m glad you had a wonderful birthday. We wish you nothing but peace and happiness throughout the year!
i’m so glad i got to help celebrate your day! Ben got some great pics, too… one of us will post/share ’em soon. (: (:
