So now you’re back from outer space

At first I was afraid
I was petrified
I kept thinking
I could never live without you by my side
But then I spent so many nights
Just thinking how you’d done me wrong
And I grew strong
I learned how to get along
So now you’re back
From outer space
I just walked in to find you here
Without the look upon your face
I should have changed my fucking lock
I would have made you leave your key
If I’d have known for just one second
You’d be back to bother me

I’d barely been home yesterday evening when I got a call from , and came out to share some conversation and affection with her, Elyse, and Reika. Reika’s shoulder was in serious pain – her PT job was really messing with her, and the Motrin and drinks just weren’t helping.

Being up to the task, of course (and having been heartily recommended prior to arrival), I gave her what-for. There was some serious pain, and like the hardcore trooper she was, she didn’t cry.

There was no way I was making it home that night, so I crashed on Colleen’s couch until morning, and had a Lion’s Den breakfast with my home-girl! Afterward, I received my validation for the day, when Reika thanked me profusely, saying her shoulder felt so much better. It’s so fuckin’ cool to really help someone like that. (no, I’m still not interested in going pro.)

So I buzzed home on my way to netmouse‘s house for the writing workshop we had planned. I was listening to hannunvaakuna‘s mix CD, which I happen to find rather jammin’, and I thought about how I Will Survive seems so very appropriate for Independence day.

By the way, hanging out with Reika, Rikhei and Reesa in the same day is just fucking confusing. I may have to dole out nicknames. ;)

netmouse, novapsyche, eposia and rikhei made awesome Writing Workshop partners. We did a number of exercises, a hilarious Free Write, a poem, and the beginnings of a short story regarding The Great Blackout of 2003. It’s so refreshing to talk to people about writing and about process and about themes, plots, and characters. You know, outside of movies. We got a lot of interesting work done, and now I have an assignment!

After the foofaraw, matt_arnold and Anne’s parents came over for some seriously fabulous food. Did I say some? JESUS JEHOSEPHAT, Anne cooked for a nation, a nation of very hungry warriors. No, I don’t know why they’re warriors, but they need FOOD, damn it! Matt regaled us with stories of his youthful indiscretions as regards college, and I mulled the valuable career advice of Anne’s mom. Thanks, mom! :D

My conversations with all of Anne’s guests and family were really great. Sometimes we were laughing until I nearly cried, and sometimes we were involved in very deep topics. The last 24 hours have really just been chock full of great times.

Also, I should say that I’m very sorry to see eposia go back home. I’ve enjoyed her presence greatly, including the way she’d whisper sexily to me, “I had to make room for the tuna!” and how she’d laugh heartily (dare I say, sympathetically?) as my chair collapsed under me. I especially enjoyed the puppy pile we made on the couch; making a friend that you immediately feel comfortable with, that’s mega cool, and fairly rare. So, Reesa, I shall miss you in your far-off land o’ heat. There are many people here who are more than eager to welcome you back, and I am one of them. :)

And finally, it was just nice to hang with netmouse again. :) And to have her sending me home with leftovers again. :D Mmmm, ribs for lunch tomorrow …
