“Athough the baby Komodos are not clones, their DNA could not have come from any other dragon.”

“Senior reptile keeper Matt Swatman shows two eggs laid by female Komodo Dragon Flora at Chester zoo in Chester, northern England. Flora, a pregnant Komodo dragon living in a British zoo, is expecting eight babies. All of the eggs she is hatching were fertilised without the help of a male partner.”

I love, most of all, the almost-sulky look on the senior reptile keeper’s face.

  1. It’s his “I’m a lame reptile keeper, but I’d rather be in a boy band” face.

    • !! Ahaha, no, I think he’s more of an emo solo act. He wants to be aloooone. Y’know. And attempt to reproduce all by his lonesome.

  2. Komodo Jesus Twins will be the name of my next band.

  3. Well, there’s other kinds of lizards that reproduce sans males, so there’s a precedent in the animal kingdom. Never heard of Komodos being able to do it though.

  4. Isn’t that just the coolest thing?! If the hatching goes okay and the baby dragons are healthy, I think I’m going to have to work the komodo dragon messiahs into future Yuletide celebration traditions.

  5. I am sooooo totally having komodo dragon Christmas cards next year :-p
