musical experiences
My big gift for the season was a shuffle, which is pretty fun (I’m listening to it now). The whole itunes thing definitely caused some consternation – I just do -not- like being forced into one software package for my music, no matter how good it is. There are a few alternatives out there, but they’re more or less janky, so… *sigh* swallow my pride and install.
I’m jamming to my music at work as we speak, and I can’t wait until I’m home where I can dock it and (I believe) change the EQ – by default, it needs some treble. I guess it makes me appreciate the ol’ laptop I’ve been lugging in to work every day – that was some seriously good quality for MP3. Eh, I should be able to solve the problem quickly, at home.
My friend eposia posted about a wedding she went to that I really like. I would be pretty cool with a similar event for myself. The way it worked:
Each bridesmaid and groomsman had one of the vows. One woman would say hers, all the groomsmen would respond “I will”; then the corresponding man would say his, and all the women respond; then everyone in the audience would respond with “So say we all.” In effect, the entire community was marrying them off, and I really liked that idea. … They had a couple of short readings from “The Prophet”, which were sappy but not nearly as bad as Bible readings would have been; the vows were exchanged, and poof! they were married. It went really well, short and sweet. They had someone there taking pictures of all the attendees and made up laminated badges with our names and pictures as a token of the wedding.
They had food provided, but no wedding cake! I like people who fuck with traditions *grin*. The evening went on for a good 6 hours or so after the ceremony, since there were lots of people playing music (including the bride and groom’s band at one point).
Near the end of the night they quit using the sound stage and gathered chairs in a circle and had a more acoustic jam session with 6 or 7 musicians taking turns. Some serious, some silly songs; most of which I didn’t know, not being part of fan life, but a couple I could sing along on the chorus.
Of course, I’m no musician. *grin* But it sounds really cool – intimate and true to the couple, rather than rote procedure.
Additionally, I love Freedictionary’s match-up. I have it on my google portal. Good words, and I don’t -always- get all of them right! … I have to admit, I have three word-of-the-days on my portal, in the hopes that occasionally I’ll see a word I don’t already know. *grin* I may have found a solution to the crappy tools provided by windows for keeping track of my battery/wi-fi – Google Desktop! Looks like some of its widgets are right up my alley – I’ll have to give it a shot when I’m back on the lappy.

Forgot to mention in my post about it that the badges, in addition to having the “Corwin and Dee Brust Wedding” label had in the upper corner the statement “with this badge, I thee wed” to further enforce the community involvement aspect.
Sweet :)
