When I went to visit Katrina and her child, I didn’t expect to, y’know, fall in love.

Her name is Allyson, and she’s two. I’ve always found that, after a small warming-up period, children and animals dig me with few exceptions. Some, though, can’t seem to take their eyes off me from the moment they see me.

Kat’s little one sat next to me for most of the three hours I was there. She ate like a good girl, and showed off her best toys. We (along with mom) played with two big, heavy cylindrical magnets, opposing and attracting, and she giggled and struggled when the magnets bounced away. She was tough – they’d snap on her fingers, and at most she’d ask for a kiss, and keep on playing without fuss or fear. I have to admit that my beard was more substantial (but slightly less hilarious) than her chocolate goatee. It was a fun time to have a furry head, for sure. Every time someone mentioned something she was going to do later, she asked if I was coming, too.

It’s just amazing, to me, how a person can so quickly be swept up by someone else’s child. Erik and Katrina are great people, and their influence is clear on their daughter. I drove home bathed in the glow of her sincere affection.

Kat and I used to talk about how our kids would play together, after we broke up 13 or so years ago, and years later, as well.

Well, I may not have kept my end of the bargain (not having children at the moment), but their child’s got me wrapped around her tiny pinky, nonetheless.

  1. How sweet!!!!!

  2. come by anytime

Well, she remembers you, that’s for sure. Whenever she sees a picture of you, she asks when you’re going to come back to see her. *grins* *smiles* Not enough for you to have my heart in your pocket, I guess. *grins* Either that, or you’re just that loveable. *hugs*
