Flights of fancy

Seeing Li’l D, the benniferus, and colleen in quick succession, at various fun occasions, has done very good by me. I’m all shivery like an excited puppy dog … or perhaps that’s the caffeine kicking in. ;)

Lucy had a formal vet event at a lansing zoo, and we danced the evening away with her friends, with time out to visit the otters, the incredibly playful foxes, large jackalope-like rabbit things that had legs like effin’ deer, and an interesting creature named something similar to a “bitturrong” (man, trying to find something phonetically on the internet is a bear) that looked just like an R.O.U.S. The zookeeper said (if I’m not mistaken) that it’s one of two mammals with prehensile tails.

Work is heavy on the “work” part, but I’m kicking butt, so I guess it’s all good. There’s something kind of bemusing about creating the template for the New York Auto Show, then flying out there to fill it, y’know? That’s what I’m doing between the 3rd and the 6th of April, actually – if anyone out there has some free time in the morning of Tuesday the 3rd, I’d be grateful for a ride. If not, I guess I’ll just make the company pay for my parking.

A month from now I’ll finally be visiting San Francisco for the first time! I’m majorly excited, it’s been on my list for forever. There are at least four people I’d like to see while I’m there – maybe one of those evenings I could arrange a dinner with my fine SanFran friends? Hmmmmm….

I hear that Wonder Boy in Monster World is coming to the Virtual Console That’s Sega Master SystemGenesis for you folks out there who’ve never heard of it. I am ridiculously excited. If you have a Wii, I cannot recommend this game enough. EDIT: It’s the Genesis game (of course), which is … pretty enjoyable. But not as awesome as The Dragon’s Trap.

On the creative side, Benny’s asked me to jump on the photo shoot with childe — which isn’t the same as jumping on childe, let me tell you. The deets are still being worked out, but I’m guessing I’ll be working with film again, which is sort of exciting after being firmly in digital for awhile.

Also, my buddy thatguychuck has asked me to make a special DVD for him, so I’m thrilled to jump on that. I wonder if I should add in a CENSORED bar? It’s a family event, after all! ;)

  1. Actually it’s the Genesis Wonder Boy. The Master System one was Wonder Boy in Monster Land :P

    • Well crap.

Actually, looking around, it isn’t either of those that I want. It’s

Wonder Boy III: The Dragon’s Trap:

  2. Just give me the details of when you’ll be in town, and I will make myself free.

  3. From Wikipedia

The Binturong, Arctictis binturong also known as Asian Bearcat, Malay Civet Cat, Palawan Bearcat or just simply the Bearcat, is neither a bear nor a cat but is a species of civet of the family Viverridae. The real meaning of the original name is lost, as the local language that gave it is extinct. Its natural habitat is forest canopy, and it spends most of its time in the trees of southeast Asia, Borneo, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and Palawan Island.

The Binturong is one of approximately 100 species of mammal believed by many husbandry experts to be capable of embryonic diapause, or delayed implantation, which allows the female of the species to time parturition to coincide with favorable environmental conditions.

They are nocturnal and sleep on branches. Their bushy tails are fully prehensile and act as a fifth hand. They are about the size of a large house cat, averaging about 60–95 cm (24–37 in) and 9-14 kg (20–31 lb). The tail is nearly as long as the body with size ranging from 55–90 cm. The ears are small and rounded and it has small eyes. They have coarse and thick black fur. They eat primarily fruit, but also have been known to dine on eggs, shoots and leaves, and small animals including rodents and birds. Deforestation has greatly reduced their numbers. When cornered, a Bearcat can be vicious and mean. A Binturong can also make chuckling sounds when it seems to be happy and utter a high-pitched wail if annoyed. Binturongs can live over 20 years in captivity. One is recorded to have lived almost 26 years.
