The Grand Canyon Skywalk
Today was the first day anyone has walked on the Grand Canyon Skywalk. 3 inches of glass under your feet, 4,000 feet of air between you and the Colorado River.
I’m totally doing this. If I still had a wall map, I’d put 3 big red pins right in that spot. I think it’s an awesome idea.

Would you?

It’s asking for trouble.
It’s built by a contractor with the “permission” of the local (completely broke) Native American tribe, an ages-old graveyard had to be moved to build it, and I have no idea where the money would be going (or who would be maintaining it).
Plus, I have a nigh-disabling fear of heights. So, no, I won’t be going.
The Las Vegas Developer is building it and giving it to the native american tribe for free, as long as he receives part of the profits. The tribe themselves are going through crushing poverty, and went through years of discussion before approving the project.
I also don’t have a fear of heights. *grin*
Hell yes!
Never in a million years. Heights terrify me.
Oh WOW. I love heights, except I always get this weird urge to leap. It seems like it’d be really fun for about 30 seconds.
I’m the same way! Except I’m kind of scared. I’m never scared I’ll fall, I’m scared I’ll jump.
Yeah, I am too! Oh god, I’m glad someone shares this feeling.
There’s actually a fairly famous philosopher who maintained that acrophobia was not a fear of falling or of heights but a fear that you would jump. I don;t think you can take it to be universal, but it seems he was more right than I gave him credit. Not that I can remember who it is.
Honestly, I was more excited before I saw pictures. It seems really small. I was expecting it to span the gorge, or at least let me feel like I more than just peering over the edge.
Absolutely not. No force of heaven, hell, or earth could get me to walk out there. I’d piss myself.
no no, never never. nooooo.
I’d totally do it, but it’s still below rafting the river and riding a mule down to the river on my list of Grand Canyon-related activities I want to do before I die.
i think i would pee myself
That’s not a no ;)
I’d do it! That would be awesome.
heck yeah. my family all lives about 4.5 hours from the Grand Canyon. one of these trips i’m going to actually do some touristy stuff (:
I absolutely do not like heights – specifically balcony type things because I am convinced they will collapse.
THAT SAID, I’d be totally happy to do it after I had a good job as a librarian and was happily married. Pre-kids, though. That way, I could die happy if I died.
Yes, I really would plan it out that much. It seems too cool not to do, but I’m too edgy to do it without making my peace with life first *grin*
You let me know when that’s all set, and we’ll get a group together. :)
Scared. Of. Heights.
(I can do fast moving stuff, like roller coasters. Ferris wheels make my anal sphincter form a microscopic opening.)
*chuckle* I often can’t believe I’ve actually gone skydiving.
While I know it isn’t this straightforward for most people, for me I just try to train my mind to convert “scary” into “thrilling”. What helped during skydiving, for instance, was that we were the sixth or seventh plane load that day, so I got to watch them take off over and over – it was their daily routine.
Which isn’t to say my sphincter wasn’t microscopic. It was just exciting instead of freak-out time.
I’m glad I’m not the only one that feels that way! I LOVE roller coasters but ferris wheels freak me right out. That said, though, I’d still try the Grand Canyon walk, even if I just stood on the solid part and looked through the glass. I’m not sure I could bring myself to step on the glass part.
depends on when i’m asked. right now, i’d totally do it.
Hell, I avoid walking on grates on city sidewalks. I don’t think I’d want to do this. Ironically, I do want to jump out of a plane with a parachute.
I would totally want to do it, I just don’t know if I could. Either I’d get there and it would be no big deal and I’d be all “yeah whatever” and stuff, or I’d walk two steps out onto it and freeze solid, eyes locked on anything directly in front of me that is neither “up” nor “down”. It could go either way, really.
i’d do it, i think its pretty cool
fo shizzle, my nizzle.
Never really had a doubt about you ;)
