He meant some TOTALLY AWESOME gamer nerd, I’m sure

A friend of mine posted something she saw in a forum:

our graduation ceremony was today, and right when some gamer nerd got his diploma, someone in the audience played the zelda “get item” music and he did the zelda spin-hold-out-item stance

And I said that I felt an ache because I was not there for this experience… and that I think going back to school for three years would be worth it just to recreate this experience.

I don’t know if I’d have the guts for it, but I sure as hell hope someone videotaped that part of the ceremony. I’ll have to search youtube for it next month.

EDIT: I love jphotog‘s icon:

  1. thats awesome. :-)

  2. That is AWESOME. Also cool, though it does not allow for an action, would be to play the Metroid “get item” music. I’m thinking of the NES/SNES music, as I have no idea if they kept it for more recent Metroids.

    • It’s still there :D

What I remember about our ceremony is that my friend, the valedictorian, had a whopping 40 second speech that endeared him to the class after the class president’s 15 minute snorefest. Seriously, she used the word scrapbook about once every 5 seconds.

      • A friend of mine started his valedictorian speech with the quote:

“Excuse me while I whip this out.”

At which point he took out the notes for his speech. It was a grand moment.

  3. I am absolutely ensuring that my son/daughter (assuming I produce offspring) is a gamer nerd so that I can do this when he/she is 18.

  4. Totally awesome! Though I am only a mere gamer wannabe, with no plans to become entreched, so my props count for little. But that’s still cool. :)

    • “mere gamer wannabe, with no plans to become entreched”

You are a terribly silly person. :) If you’d be excited at going to a game-based symphony, if you get excited at going to A&A’s to watch them play Zelda, if you know the music I’m speaking of, you count just as much as some hardcore gamer who put 60 hours into the first Zelda evarrr.

As for having “no plans to become entrenched”, I would love to see the person who got into games with the intent to become entrenched. :) Just like movies, stories, and music, you either enjoy the experience or you don’t, and label yourself at your very whim. ;)

      • Yes, well, I will allow that I am a hardcore geek and nerd, but not perhaps such a hardcore gamer. I fully recognize the music but I don’t feel that it resonates in me as much as with those who “put 60 hours into the first Zelda evarrr”. My POV.

I should say that by “entrenched” I meant “no intention of putting any money or extra effort into broadening my gaming horizons”.

  5. Hee hee

I’m totally going to hear that music in my head when I take that long walk Friday night.

Any chance you wanna come see it?

    • Nah, I’ve got stuff to do.

Of course I do, you goof. When is it, and where? Anyone else going that I should meet up with, or will I be setting off fireworks indoors by myself?

      • Amazingly – I’ve completely forgotten to invite anyone to it! You’re the first non-family member that I’ve mentioned it to specifically – so I guess I should start to get on the ball with that – huh? 7:00 Palace – they said it may last for as long as 2 hours. I can invite people back to Carrie and Daves after, for ribs and such, but planning on more of a blowout once my classes were actually finished.

  6. That is the best thing ever, I wish I’d thought of it for my graduation :)

  7. That is so cool! My son, a certifiable gamer nerd who is, shall we say, totally into Zelda, will want us to do that when he graduates, I’m sure.

  8. That is the greatest thing I have heard all day.

    Possibly all week.

    • :D A priceless moment. *gets out videocamera and cap n gown*

Actually, if I HAD a videocamera at home, I’d totally fake it.

  9. Personally, I’d prefer to have the Final Fantasy victory music played for me, but this is still terribly awesome.

  10. ZOMG I’m totally doing that!

  11. No dude, I’m doing the Victory music from the Final Fantasy series.
