Sewing

Ren fest is coming up, and I’m considering making some (inexpensive) changes to the outfit that Melinda so kindly sewed for me … uhm … seven years ago.

At least one of the wooden toggles needs to be relocated, and one of the sleeves (which consist of strips of black cloth, on the outerwear) needs to be adjusted so I’m not pulling on it with my elbow. The bracers… well, they need to be rotated as well, so they’re symmetrical, but my big problem with them is just that the material is too soft. It works, but I’ve been considering how I can stiffen them without spending a bunch on, say, black leather. Some of the metal rivets have come loose, as well.

So, a lot of work, considering I own naught more than an emergency sewing kit. *grin* She also made a pair of black stretch-velvety “tights” for underneath (actually nicely thin enough to feel a breeze), and they never fit exactly right, so if I’m going to keep the outfit, some day I’ll probably have to replace them entirely.

Two things I’ve never been unhappy with are my hat and my shoes. Of course, I bought them both. :D

  1. I have two sewing machines if I can be of assistance. I’m not a Queen of Seams by any means but if it can help…

  2. If you want really stiff…..you can use heavey duck canvas. pretty darn cheap.
Or, some heavy duty iron on interfacing
    also pretty cheap

  3. I can’t help but admit that I love it when I see the icon of you in your hat or you mention it… it makes me all kinds of pleased :) Super Sexy!
