Front cover of my Big Book
I used to call this my “Big Black Book”. It was a large blank book, and it has been a tradition for me to give it to a friend with the two rules: You get one and only one page, and you have to sign it. It is about a third full, I think.
Lucy had it rebound for my birthday, and it was just finished today. I love it! It was inspired by my tattoo idea, and is also effectively steampunky.
But now I need a new way to refer to it. Suggestions?

The Book of Gears?
The Big Brown Book?
The Journal of U?
Meatspace Journal?
The Orrery Journal
That could be awfully difficult to pronounce. The Book of Armillary. :)
Clockwork reality?
something with clockwork?
A Clockwork Brown.
The Machine. You could even rig it so it would play “Welcome to the Machine,” if you, y’know, hated your connection to decency and humanity.
As a bookbinder, thats pretty friggin cool! Two bone folders up!
You’re a bookbinder? I didn’t know that. Sweet!
maybe i dont post my stuff enough!
I have all new tools i hope to show off soon…
Wow.
That’s totally awesome.
Have you seen the steampunk book-closure that someone did? it looks gearlike, bits of metal that go from the center out to clamp the book down and hold a pen in place. I wish I could find it to link it.
I did see that one! Pretty cool! I had some ideas from that but dont work enough with metals. heres the link!
That’s it! You so win.
For those of you possibly going, “Wait… isn’t your birthday in January?”… yes, yes it is. Better late than never, ya know? Hehe. I had promised it to him 9 months ago but didn’t have the means until this summer. Therefore he gets a birthday present in September. Something isn’t quite fair about that….
From Myst.
Scott’s book of Ages. Each page is a glimpse into the world of a friend.
The Leather book of Mine!
Or something…
that is a pretty damn sweet binding. better than i pictured it! :D
that’s neat lookin
I love it! Very well done! I have no idea how to make something like it, but it’s a great pattern.
Awesome! I remember it being a bit flimsy when you handed it to me. It looks great!
You could call it your Big Book of Sundries. Get it? SUNdries!
Ha!
