Gmail to integrate contact list into other apps
Woohoo! I’ve been waiting for this since the beginning!
I want to be able to click on a contact and see the various days I’ve planned with them. I also want to be able to say “lunch with bob ross on thursday” and if I’ve got a map associated with him, it’ll be linked in my calendar.
I have hopes that fun things like this are soon to come.

I love google. I love google a googalplex. I guess that would make it L0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000ve.
FTW! *kotc*
I love geek humor.
Always happy to please.
I’m excited too, unless it’s going to make me re-enter my contacts. Given that this is brought to us by a data-harvesting company, I expect it will import them from the existing contacts list.
Dear Google, I love you. Love, Bonnie.
Also, I want them to make the IMAP integration w/Thunderbird a bit more smooth. I would fucking *adore* them if T-bird could get my contacts.
(I also want to figure out how to best use the T-bird offline, but I think that’s more my problem, and less Google’s.)
*grin* For sure.
Actually, I just use the web client for my gmail. Clearly, with imap, I could install thunderbird on my work and home computers and be set, but … well, I don’t know why I would, exactly. :)
Usually, that’s what I do- I love the web client. But after this past Weekend of Travelling and Mysteriously Malfunctioning Internets, I definitely see the benefit of being able to review old email and compose new offline, and the benefit of being able to sync everything when the internet’s doing it’s “Ok, fifteen minutes! But that’s all you get, then I’m off again,” bullshit.
Meh. The new version of GMail is messing up Firefox. Every time I logged in, it would throw up an error and log me right back out. I had to disable the ‘Better GMail’ extension, and go back to the ‘Older version’ of GMail. Hope they get it straightened out, because I do love me some GMail.
On a related note, have you noticed the improvements to Yahoo Mail? You can click on most any date in an email, and have it added to your Yahoo calendar. Moreover, imprecise dates like “next Tuesday” seem to be clickable appointments, too. Very cool.
No, though I do have a yahoo email acct, I almost never log in – it’s really a spam box these days. It seems I’m destined to do this – have one main and one spam box, and when the main one gets overloaded, make it my spam box and get another. *sigh*
I haven’t seen the new Gmail yet.
I’m waiting for the criminal case that has the police look up the criminal’s Google Calendar to figure out where he’s going to be, and then arrest him there.
I don’t put anything on Google Calendar that I wouldn’t want the whole world to see, because I figure, they can. Or they will be able to, very soon.
This is just scary, IMO.
I honestly don’t have anything I can imagine would be of any use to anyone else (other than, perhaps, a stalker).
Government surveillance is pretty much a given. As for other people, I think it’s no less secure than keeping a calendar on my desktop – really, once the calendar escaped from being in your possession at all times, one just has to accept that risk.
Though I’d prefer a few people not have access to my calendar, it really wouldn’t be much of a big deal if they did.
