     Sorry. :) Imagine a sales agent called you to say, “My computer isn’t working” and then left you to figure out for yourself what he meant.

     • Eh? = Your post indicates that Steve is an e-trade commercial for Hong Kong stocks. Why? I find nothing to correspond to that at least with his recent posts.

       • I saw an E-trade commercial with a guy who looks (and behaves, to some degree) very much like Steve.

         It wasn’t actually him.

         • After I saw “IN” it made the difference. When I first read it, it seemed like you were suggesting that his LJ was promoting the purchase of Hong Kong stocks using e-trade, and I couldn’t figure out why you’d say that.

       • Hehehe. The explosion about “eh” is because I said it yesterday too, and somehow “eh” doesn’t necessarily translate to poor Scott as “I have no idea what you’re talking about, pls xplane kthxbye” even though that’s all I’ve ever known it to mean. Hehe

         Only with a question mark though. Eh with no question mark is kinda like meh, but Eh? for me will always “Please elaborate, you’ve lost me completely”

         • it’s the “kthxbai” that comes through most clearly. It’s not as bad as “huh?”, but either are frustrating, especially in an oral situation when it could mean, “could you repeat yourself?” or “what do you mean by that?” or “That was gibberish to me, could you rephrase?” or “I don’t agree, I am incredulous.” or simply, “that’s ridiculous!”.

         • So do you consider it impolite?

           In an oral situation I don’t think I commonly say “eh?” I think that’s only something I do in text, because, well it’s easy and fast to type. Yep. I, too, am susceptible to the trend of textspeak. I just spell out all of my words. Eh is a complete word. Hehe
