Sad, isn’t it? And if it isn’t ghosts, the loch ness monster, or UFOs, it’s WW2, as if world history started in 1939.
It used to be, you could turn on TLC, discovery or the history channel and usually find something interesting and educational. Now it’s all spike TV-esqe crap (except for mythbusters, which is awesome).
At least it’s a change from All Hitler, All The Time. I call it the Hitler Channel most of the time because that seemed to be the only historical figure they saw fit to show.
A few weeks ago at IPM the History Channel had this really trippy program on about the Little Ice Age. Just the visuals from it made the perfect accompaniment to the gothic industrial that was spinning that night at IPM.
As for the rest, I recommend killing your TV as soon as you can. It’s the only way to be sure.
It also has a lot of God and the Bible nowadays. History International is still sane.
Though what you REALLY want to watch is “Citites of the Underworld” on the History Channel. Trust me. YOu’l;l go ape shit with all the urban exploration.

Aw man, this just makes me want cable!
They tend to go in cycles. It’s either All Nazis, All The Time, or the Halloween Channel.
History Channel International is fun – they actually discuss things before the 20th Century.
Since the Sci Fi channel started showing nothing but Stargate reruns.

Oh, I’ve watched it, believe me. The hitler bunker in Prague? I was practically vibrating with wanderlust. The secret samurai tunnels? SO awesome.
Also, the Population: Zero program was pretty frickin’ cool.
Also also, the “before the dinosaurs” program had STUNNINGLY good CG. Seriously.
