My friend fieldsofseaweed successfully defended her Master’s thesis and is now working for a company called Regeneron. Among other things, apparently, they’re working on a drug to combat Macular Degeneration. How cool is that?

  1. Considering that I’m genetically at risk for macular degeneration, that is very cool indeed.

  2. Ah yes, MD.

Before I left Esperion (hence absorbed, renamed, and evaporated), I helped my boss start digging into the potential of xenotransplantation as a therapy for Macular Degeneration. Interesting stuff, but really not a plausible solution (c’mon, injecting neurons into a nice spongy brain is one thing, but landing a bunch of cells into the uber-thin retina? Riiiiight.) back then.

  3. My grandma has that, so I might be predisposed to it as well. (I didn’t realize one could be.) Tell her thanks!

  4. Thanks, Scott!! As always, if you come near NYC, you better visit!!!
