Regarding that thing that happened …

There be some fairly big news, but I feel it is only right and fair to send you to see this post before I go into it.

SkennCon 2009

I had a wonderful weekend with Nancy, Alex, Amy, Melanie, K.T. and of course Lucy. We took the train to Chicago, ate wonderful food, partied into the evening, went to museums, and took the train home.

Oh, also, I asked Lucy to marry me.

While the general gist wasn’t a surprise – we’ve been speaking directly of our intentions for some time – she was completely floored when it happened.

In fact, I’d only told one non-family person by that time, which is fairly impressive because I can’t hide surprises worth a damn.

In her family, it is tradition to first react with, “Are you serious?” and she did not let them down.

The Particulars:
So, I made a game for SkennCon. I made a loot bag, full of fun toys and candy, and made up a set of game cards so people could vie for loot. Some cards were straightforward (tell us something and loot), some were mini-games (Winner of one round of Never Have I Ever gets to loot), and some were devious (steal someone else’s loot).

However, I made a special card just for lucy, and when she wasn’t looking, I slipped it in and had her pick.

When she looked up, I had her glowing red ring ready, and another card that told her about why I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. I then got traditional and said it aloud, on one knee.

Being the awesome guy I am ;), she said yes, and all is well. Some time in the near future, we will get her grandmother’s ring and have it re-banded, and she will have something to wear that won’t set off the clown alarm.

We spent the rest of the weekend happy as clams. Feel free to look through (and comment on) the pictures!
