Okay, getting a new phone is awesome.
Getting a new phone ’cause your old one is too busted to transfer addresses? Not so awesome.
I spent most of this evening transferring numbers into my gmail contact list, because it conveniently exports as outlook CSV, which my new phone can import. If there’s one thing that regularly annoys me about gmail, it’s the inability to consolidate email addresses without deleting one and adding it to another.
Bedtime (like an hour ago)

Gmail has had the “merge contacts” function for about a year now…select two contacts and choose “Merge these contacts”
Well that’s goofy. I’ve clearly seen it and thought “that’s not for me.” So I’m going to pretend it just came out today.
Awesome! I’ll have to use that.
Lol. If it makes ya feel any better I did the same thing when cleaning up my contacts when I got the android. I’d manually merged half my list before remembering that merge existed.
I didn’t like that gmail/android didn’t automagically format phone numbers with hyphens 555-867-5309, and would leave them all run together (madness!!). So, I fixed some on the phone, but ended up with dupes after I synced. (both 555-867-5309 and 5558675309)
I ended nuking my address book on the phone, making the appropriate corrections in gmail, then syncing back up. :-)
ARGH!!!! damn I spent weeks doing them by hand and just saw this function today and when I come back to tell Skennedy about it you have beaten me to it…..
Seeings as how I’ve been debating the new phone I gotta ask.
Whatcha get and how do you like it?
Verizon has (at least last month, don’t know about this month) a buy-one-get-one on blackberries – rather than wait until October when my contract was up (I’d like an android phone!) we went with dual Blackberry Storms.
I would say that it is an awful lot of fun setting it up, especially now that they’ve finally pushed out a major update to the software. First thing you probably need to do though is download the free Stormlocker application – it adds a “swipe to unlock” whenever you’re on the phone so your ear doesn’t accidentally mute or speakerphone your call. :D
I very much like that you can download free applications outside of their app store.
Neat. I was drooling over those, but little outside the budget even with the BOGOF. I’ve been eyeing up the Samsung Alias (second version) which is the BOGOF this month I think.
