“Is Astrology Relevant to Consciousness and Psi?”

I’m not looking to infringe upon anyone’s beliefs– I have my own ways of dealing with the ineffable mysteries of life, and they probably wouldn’t scrutinize well by the men in the white lab coats. However, I thought this was pretty fascinating:

Many tests of astrologers have been made since the 1950s but only recently has a coherent review been possible. A large-scale test of persons born less than five minutes apart found no hint of the similarities predicted by astrology. Meta-analysis of more than forty controlled studies suggests that astrologers are unable to perform significantly better than chance even on the more basic tasks such as predicting extraversion [sociability]. More specifically, astrologers who claim to use psychic ability perform no better than those who do not.

(was it Dasro who linked to badastronomy.com earlier today? I don’t recall, but thanks for some totally fascinating (and somewhat incendiary) reading. (I love double parentheticals (but not as much as triple!)))

(EDIT: Twas Espresso White-Hat! (thanks incyr))

I think it’s appropriate to repeate a quote I saw on this damnable content management system I use at work. The random quotation system is the only thing that works reliably:

“I don’t believe in astrology, but I’m an Aquarian, and Aquarians don’t believe in astrology.”

  1. ‘Twas Coffeejedi that linked it.

  2. I’ve always said there is no way the Pisces profile applies to me. Even as general as it is.

    • I’d agree with you on that.

    • Whereas I fit most Scorpio definitions almost perfectly, no matter how detailed they are. Odd. The only trait that generally doesn’t apply to me is the allusion to Scorpios being revenge motivated/obsessed. I’m not particularly vengeful. But since I’m currently a Buddhist, that could be a learned trait, too.
