Photoshop CS3 beta
Refine Selection Edge!!
Auto Align layers based on pixel content!!
SMART filters that are nondestructive, alpha channeled, and adjustable
anytime later?!
I think I need to change my pants.
(conversely, my first reaction to the smart filters was “FINALLY!”)
There is video of these wondrous features being demonstrated at the
layers magazine web site.

aw man, and i just got around to finally installing CS2 last night…
(hence my new animated icon)
I’m very likely to buy this version of CS. The decider will be regarding Lightroom and if it comes with the bundle. If so, it’s mine. I lurv Lightroom, and as soon as its couple of quirks are fixed it’ll likely be the only raw converter / library tool / etc which I need.
I haven’t used it, but then I haven’t owned my own RAW-capable digital camera. Funny, innit?
being able to make a quick selection and then modify aspects of that selection (like feathering and expanding/contracting) in one quick dialog, all at once, is so hot. Add to that the ability to use filters nondestructively (so I don’t have to create “safety layers” in case I don’t like it later) is fucking awesome.
Yeah, that looks really, really handy. As long as student CS3 is still $299 – $399 I might finally pay for it.
Lightroom is still good when used with JPEGs, you just won’t have as many options available to you. I think it’s catalog, navigation, and other such things are really slick. It just needs better cropping options (predefine X,Y in pixels, not just a freely drawn but ratio-bound box) and some other things.
I think I got a spam mail the other day with “Refine Selection Edge!!” as the subject…
Sometimes we all need to refine our selection edges, my friend.
