ConFusion 2007
It was a great, interesting, weird, and different year. I didn’t spend as much time randomly exploring, nor did I spend as much time (or, indeed, any time) at the panels. Instead, I explored with my stalwart gang, and we ate, drank, and sang merrily on occasion.
I danced, for sure, but I didn’t dress up for the contest. Lucy and I were going to do the “School-girl and Hentai tentacle monster” thing, but it just wasn’t our year for it – my fishnets weren’t available. Nancy, on the other hand, totally won the prize for best “hall costume” (IE discovered instead of entered). We all cheered for her boobs very accurate and fun costume.
We played some wacky fun games, and cruised the various parties, and had some fascinating scotch (kind of smoky and peppery), as well as Mount Gay *ahem* vanilla rum with coke and other merry drinks. Thanks be to the pirates who contributed to our rum rations! I belted out “Drunken Sailor”, and got the whole hall (for it were a mobile pirate party!) singing, and that was pretty awesome.
I met up with Chuck, Rennie, Dean and M’jit, Ann, Rikhei, Brendan, and metric tonnes of other folk. I did not get my yearly Sydney sighting, but perhaps I’ll spy her at PenguiCon. :)
I think, because I was with my own group, I did not do as much meeting-of-new-people this year, and that’s a shame. Also, I didn’t lurk in the Con Suite (always a great place for conversation), but I think part of that was because I had a knack for appearing there just as all the food had gone (must have followed the rum!). Bad timing on my part!
I was glad to see a large quantity of younger kids this year – ConFusion has (IMO) been threatening to make itself irrelevant through a lack of youth, but I think if these folk keep the tradition going, we’ll see the event continue to flourish.
Finally, I’m pleased to note that the art room has made a comeback! I bought lucy a beautiful pendant (which she’s wearing in the photos) from the room (organized by Dean, I believe). I hope it grows back to its former glory.

I did indeed organize the room, and M`jit helped me run it. Yay! Success! Next year will be even better, I hope!
how do i know the girl in red? she looks so familiar.
Nancy is a lansing gal – she’s been in my photos many times, and was (I think! but maybe not) at my birthday party last year.
“Drunken Sailor”
Ah, that was you!
I was way down the hall poking through parties when that erupted. Sounded GREAT!
Re: “Drunken Sailor”
Arr, good singin’ lass!
Re: “Drunken Sailor”
I’m a lad, though my reference to fishnets might belie that ;)
Re: “Drunken Sailor”
When you’re singing of the drunken sailors you might note we don’t care so much for these gender distinctions. We’re mostly equal opportunity pillagers…
Re: “Drunken Sailor”
Fair enough!
Re: “Drunken Sailor”
But, y’know, “Drunken Sailor” is always on-topic with us…
Re: “Drunken Sailor”
Aye!
Next time, they should demand sailor or pirate limericks!
Re: “Drunken Sailor”
Thanks! *big grin* I love me sea shanties!
I would have started up a Great Big Sea song, but there’s no guarantee who knows them.
Also, I didn’t lurk in the Con Suite (always a great place for conversation), but I think part of that was because I had a knack for appearing there just as all the food had gone (must have followed the rum!).
By “all the food had gone” do you mean the real food, aka sandwich meat, cheese etc? I thought we did a pretty good job of keeping the basics pretty well stocked, and would like to hear about it if there were time when we didn’t. Thanks.
*nodnod* I was never there during cold-cuts (there was a single slice of roast beef, once), though I DID get some tuna a little later, which was great!
And the Mt. Dew -was- all gone at some point – I tried to bring it up to whoever was nearby and seemed to be staffing, and they said you just had to dig. That picture though, of the girls, was right there, and none of them could come up with any.
If you need specific times, I’ll talk to my crew and figure it out, but ultimately we often found something to munch upon. I think Friday night we were hunting around, and Lucy went off hungry.
The bread thing was a GREAT idea – just leaving it out and available for people to get their own and make sandwiches, really awesome.
Thanks for the information. For future reference, the soda is stored in the closets next to the bathrooms, so if there’s something you want and can’t find, take a look in there and throw a case in the tub. Although we did run out of Dew fairly early on Saturday night, I think, so it might really have been all gone.
Glad you liked the sandwich station.
I’ve got a short list of things to try *IF* I happen to be able to do Lucy up in a corset again. *shrugs*
*cough* I think you mean “when”! I loved it so much! I think it lowered my alcohol tolerance though, somehow. Hehe
You TOTALLY need to send me those pics. They’re awesome. You’re awesome. Wheee!
Yay! Thanks :)
Penguicon, yes yes?
I will be there. I’m trying to arrange some ribbons for m’self :)
Save a ribbon for me!
*grin* I might even have a voice at Penguicon…
Ask, and ye shall receive! After accomplishing the requirement, of course.
Fortunately, it’s an easy, fun task. :D
