I AM SO EXCITED

blue_lucy called me from the U.P. to say that the place they stopped on their way north (about 40 minutes from lansing) had the infamous Chili-Cheese Burrito that is so difficult to find.

“One menu item lost along the way was the Chili Cheese Burrito. It was made with the same homogenous brown slop as all of the other Taco Bell products of its generation, yet it had its unique audience. Somewhere between the white-bread monotony of Soft Taco and the mongrel bizarreness of Mexican Pizza, as hearty as Bean Burrito but with a little extra kick, the Chili Cheese Burrito was a keystone of the early nineties Taco Bell menu. Yet while these other staple products remain alongside the newer, fancier, more expensive products on today’s gentrified menu, available as a “side dish” or a curiosity, the Chili Cheese Burrito has vanished from nearly all of the nation’s Taco Bells.
Fittingly, the summer of 2004 saw the rise of a grassroots campaign of individuals dedicated to getting the Chili Cheese Burrito back on the Taco Bell menu. The website www.chilicheese.org has become the public face of this campaign.” – The Fed

EDIT: I created a google map for the Metro Detroit/AA/Lansing area. Woo hoo!

EDIT 2: Call ahead. This map must be years old. I haven’t found a taco bell yet that -does- have chilitos, and I’ve called 4 on the “yes” list. *mutter*

  1. Ooo, Taylor.

  2. My favorite was always the basic beef burrito. No beans, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, sour cream, sauce, just beef (or what passes for it at Taco Bell) and cheesy goodness. Now you have to order something else – can’t remember the name – and have them leave everything off but the beef and cheese. They usually screw it up. :::siiigh:::

  3. I have ICP stuck in my head, thanks to you!

  4. Filthy lies. I drove all the way across town to the Stadium Rd Taco Bell, an they didn’t have Chili Cheese burritos. Those bastards. :)

  5. OH MY GOD!

I now crave a Chili-Cheese Burrito. Or as they were called when I first started getting them, a Chilito.
