A confession
| A friend of mine gave me a great compliment the other day about how I don’t seem to be afraid to discuss anything, and since I’ve been struggling with something for years, I decided that I have to share it with you.
When I was 15, I was … impressionable. My first (and, as far as I knew, last) girlfriend held great sway with me. I let her talk me into things that I’d consider beyond the pale, these days. This, then, is the story of the most embarrassing of those circumstances. I must confess that I really, really liked Warrant. Katrina had me listening to Z-Rock, and for awhile I was fabulously in love with both her and my hair metal. I used a dual-deck to loop-record one track from Cherry Pie over and over, and then practiced singing it for days. Because, y’know, she liked my singing voice. Which should have been a clear warning that her tastes were less than objective or refined. Anyway, I’m listening to Trase’s music collection through the network, and here it is again. Warrant. I’ve been harboring a deep, dark secret that I could no longer hide from you, my friends. I’m sure you’ll come to forgive me, in time. At least my favorite song wasn’t Duran Duran’s Wild Boys, right? (On a related note, I ran into Jani Lane’s MySpace about a year ago via friend-of-friend, and it is seriously the highlight of MySpacedom. Nearly 15 years after his stardom, and he can’t spell to save his life. What first appears to be the greatest parody of “fallen glam” quickly shows itself to be his real-and-true blog.) |
It could have rained for forty weeks dear I’d have never known the difference When your life is one long downpour You don’t think you’ll go the distance You come along with a patch of blue sky Mister Rainmaker don’t waste your time Love never rained down on me dear You came along with a patch of blue sky Mister Rainmaker don’t waste your time |

do not knock duran duran!!!!
*grin* I said that knowing at least four of my friends would protest. ;) I didn’t count on you, though!
I am old, and therefore I had to sit through my best friend crying in 8th grade because Simon le Bon got married and so her chances were shot.
I LIVED through Duran Duran.
There is nothing to forgive. I STILL harbor a soft spot for the Down Boys. :D
In my younger days I was a HUGE Warrant fan. I recently got my Cherry Pie CD out and listened to it and I’ll be damned if I don’t still remember every word LOL. I still like Mr. Rainmaker. It appeals to the hopeless romantic within. Maybe it proves my tastes are less than refines, but whatever, its just fun music.
I’ve seen Jani Lane’s MySpace as well. God bless him for still putting it out there. LOL
Love the icon.
Thanks :D
And now I have Mr. Rainmaker stuck in my head this morning thankyouverymuch. ;P
*bows theatrically* My pleasure.
I still have Warrant’s “The Bitter Pill” in my 80s MP3 mix. I like some 80s cock rock.
Oh yeah, and “Union of the Snake” is soooo much better than “Wild Boys.”
Oh, yes!
Old Duranies never die. We’re everywhere!
ok, 2 things
1) Cherry Pie is one of my favorite songs to play on Guitar Hero
2) when i was little, i found my dad’s cassette copy of Duran Duran’s Rio. i had no idea who they were and i was in a curious sort of stage in my life, so i took the cassette apart. years later i would realize that holy shit, Rio was a great fucking song…and i DESTROYED it! so Rio has been my Scarlet Letter of sorts
consider me one of the duran duran fans!!!
i liked wild boys … still do, the song and, you know, real wild boys, but only in my fantasies ;)
I don’t care what anyone says, Cherry Pie is a great frickin song. Its the perfect example of what I call “purely fun metal.” It’s a great dance song, great strip song…just a great friggin song that gets everyone moving and singing together.
As is Pour Some Sugar on Me by Def Leppard. Not on the same level, but both just FUN!
