Regarding SkennCon (Adventure Time!):

Fogo is looking less and less lika a viable option. While some of my intrepid friends are willing to pay a little extra to eat delicious meats all night long, I don’t think everyone is willing to pay 50 bucks (plus drink) for the privilege, so we’re going to do something else for eats.

That option is up for debate! Feel free to contribute, even if you can’t come, but we’re looking for some fabulous Chicago-only food that falls into the less than fifty bucks each category. The plan is to board the train with a number of ideas, let those ideas wrestle in jello for awhile, and arise in Chicago with a single bloodied but victorious champion. Which we will then consume.

First suggestion from blue_lucy: Tappas!

Along with dinner, we have other fanciful ideas for spending our time. Again, I like the idea of waiting until we’re on the train and brainstorming on these ideas until the most exciting options win – I don’t want to insist on something I think is fun while everyone else takes a nap.

Our first suggestion comes from plasmonicgrid
American Science and Surplus stores – http://www.sciplus.com/ Rare earth magnets, bottles, toys, kits and models, and object descriptions like, “It throws a red point a loong way (we’ve thrown it two city blocks at night, and it would’ve gone farther, but buildings got in the way).”

This seems like a great place for crafty people, of which I’m one. of. Or something.

Additional suggestions in comments or on the train! We’ll get out some maps and make a quest of things (Belly-dancing hookah bar is still on, never fear Amy).

In other news, we have our own evil schemes for train shenanigans afoot. Including, perhaps, pudding shots, or even pudding espresso. Feel free to devise your own deviousness (is that repetitive?) to entertain the lot of us. Topless is fine.

  1. Lucy’s apartment, by the by, is at:

    4826 Duvernay Dr
    Lansing, MI 48910

It’s in Dover’s Crossing. Various Lansing folk have offered crash space if non-Lansing folk want to drive in Friday evening. As a matter of fact, we may have a little Friday evening soiree or something. Location? Who knows.

  2. Btw, is that cigar bar idea off the list of things to do? Please? Even with a walloping load of anti-histamines, cigar smoke gives me screaming headaches.

On a positive note, there are not one, but two, count ’em, TWO ‘Thai Grottos’ in Chicago. Once up north of Lincoln, one in Hyde Park. More Thai food in two places than you can shake a mighty big stick at. Or, er, at least, there used to be…? It’s only been 7+ years.

Chinatown’s always good. Love the bakeries there.

    • It’s not a cigar bar – it’s a hookah bar. And we’re going because a friend of ours is a professional belly dancer there, not necessarily because we want to smother ourselves in smoke. Have you ever been around smoke from a hookah? It’s not quite as caustic. I don’t think we’re going to spend all night there though…

  3. For food, I suggest Chicago pizza. Which I’ve never had while in Chicago.

I’m all for trying out an espresso pudding shot. I will be Senor Guinea Pig!

Also, I don’t own a bathing suit! Onoez!

  4. I’m so sad I’m going to miss this. :(

Everybody needs to have even more fun for my lack of being there. Kay?

  5. I have never had tappas and would love to try it with this crowd. I think it would be terrific.

  6. wish I could go. This sounds like it’s going to be a blast, and I could use a weekend away. Alas, I lack fundage and have a child to tend to this weekend. Have a little fun for me too.
