Car is officially totaled

Does anyone know someone at Ford who might be able to get me a discount for another Mazda? Mom suggests I try to “do it again”, as it were.

I need to find the payout of my vehicle, and hope beyond hope that somehow it gets marginally close to the cost of a similar vehicle. The only things I have going for me are that small cars (especially the Mazda 3) are majorly in demand right now and the appraiser listed a few things I don’t exactly recall being on the car. :) Nothing big, but still.

Also, I put brand new tires on it just a month ago, so with the receipt in the glove box I should be able to get the full value. I rather wish I’d upgraded the car in other ways so I’d get closer to not having more debt, heh.

Once I get the number ($$) for my deceased car, I’ll have only a few days to find other transportation before the rental is up.

  1. Sadly, I have lost access to my Ford-discount-bearing ex-father-in-law.

  2. Shouldn’t you be talking to the Mazda dealer?

  3. well, that just sucks. But at least you have a good chance of getting a good deal.

I agree with your mom, which is to say I’d say the same thing I said to Nancy when her car got smackered – get back on the horse and ride.

    • When a friend got into a pretty horrific accident and walked away without a scratch, he immediately went out and bought another one based pretty much solely on that.

      • hey, that’s as good a sign that you’re in the right car as any.

Cold soft drinks magically appearing in the cup holder when you’re thirsty is another good selling point.

  4. If our driver’s licenses had the same address I could hook you up….
    but…sadly….

  5. I’m not sure what quirks my father’s discount plan has taken on since he retired but I know an awesome Ford dealer regardless. I’ll ask around.

  6. Sorry I have no connections. All I can send is good wishes.

  7. Hi, I read /friendsfriends.

If you to make a connection inside the big oval, ask if they can get a “B lot” car. They’re test cars and executive transportation, all gently used and manufacturer-maintained for ridiculously cheap prices. They might have holes in the dash for testing equipment, but dash plastic is amazingly cheap.

    • Thanks! I’ll see what I can rustle up. Time is short!

      • Crap, I just read that the B Lot closed. Be aware that A and Z plans are below invoice, but X plan (friends, contractors, &c) is $100 above invoice, which can be worse than some dealer sale prices.

        • Right now I’m told there are no discounts on small cars because they’re so in demand. I’d be looking to replace my Mazda 3.

          • Dearborn-area dealers are much friendlier with plan customers than other metro-Detroit areas, but there doesn’t appear to be any Mazda dealers around, closest is Ferndale. The 3 is a fantastic car, it’s a good choice to stick with it. You might also test a Suzuki SX4, Civic, or even a Matrix for about the same price/motor/fuel economy/size.

  8. At last, news! Not the favorite news to hear, but news nonetheless.

  9. I’m also able to get the Z-plan. I don’t know exactly how it works, but I’m willing to help, if need be. :)

  10. I’ll talk to dad. I’m sure it can be arranged

  11. I get the X plan through msu, but you have to have proof of employment at MSU, or have my address.
    Sorry!
