I’m having a moment!

The way we fall in love with our friends is a marvel. The way we remain attached to them, perhaps even beyond the lifetime of the actual friendship, you know?

I had a funny dream about my friend Heather, last night – she moved to Florida awhile back, like Melinda. I haven’t seen either of them in well over a year, but they are my family (like a number of you fine folk), and I adore them.

I suppose I’m feeling the same thing that made me make this cheesy little video – it’s a relief to know that I have friends who will leap into my arms, who miss me when I am not around, and who allow me to completely relax around them.

A few memories, in no order:

  • Singing “Just a city boy, living in south Detrooooooit!” in a cheesy Monroe bar
  • Lounging on a hotel bed with six or seven peeps
  • Driving two thousand miles with my love
  • Bellydancing in Chicago
  • Lunching on the roof of Michigan Central Station
  • Dancing with old friends at Chuck’s wedding
  • The Reggae version of “Louie Louie”
  • “Is it true it’s always happy hour here?”
  • “Scottie Queen, serving up the best ice cream”
  • Squealing Heather Missile off the EMU stage
  • Gothing up for the evening (Clockwork Orange makeup for extra iconoclast points!)
  • Tripping in L-town on Halloween
  • My first photo shoot, outdoors, in the dead of winter. Hey, I wasn’t wearing the evening dress.
  • Pajama day at The Castle
  • Cedar Point with Ben
  • One-on-one Magic at restaurants
  • The Wee NinjaTM Meijer Tacklehug
  • Good Game! with Colleen
  • Chinese on Monday
  • Being taught to carve wood
  • “I could totally make these clouds in photoshop.”
  • Penlight photography in D.C.
  • Sneaky trip to North Carolina for a birthday
  • Losing my hematite under the stars ;)
  • Karaoke trios in the great white Rochester
  • Water Balloon wars are worth losing the toss
  • Rope corsetry and the OSBP
  • mini-dogpiles with new friends

There are hundreds of other great memories (some with photos, some without) that I’ve shared with the family I’ve acquired over the years, and I felt the overwhelming need to sit back and acknowledge my fortune.

Thanks for being a part of my life, everyone.

PS If you feel so inclined, tell me about one of your favorite friend-intimate moments (with or without me!)

  1. one of my favorite friend moments was sitting with you in my living room, cutting and gluing hundreds of foam tentacles for Halloween, listening to Pandora and watching Steamboy and Zim and eating Taco Bell. That was a great week!

  2. we sure were!

  3. When we were all in the car and the windshield cracked.

The night when you were playing Katamari and I was giving Lucy a backrub and she thought I was looking down her shirt when I was really watching her cross-stitch.

I came in to check on you and Lucy morning you left. The two of you asleep was so cute and touching. It was very moving to have guests in our house and to know you had driven so far just to see us. That was a precious moment.

    • Heh, were we back to back or spooning?

      The windshield experience was priceless.

      • Back to back. I realize to some people might see it as creepy, but that you would understand the emotion and meaning behind it.

The windshield was absolutely priceless. When we are in the car and Kati puts her feet on the dash, I lean over and say, “That did not just happen!”

        Good times. Good times indeed.

  4. The day it was just you, Jer, and I at Franks. I had so much support, love, and friendship from you guys that I didn’t know what to do with it.

Also, every Denny’s dinner we’ve ever had. *nodnod*

    • It’s funny how such a crappy and (now) expensive 24-hr diner can be the background to so many experiences, really. Businesses of mine have been created there. Fights have happened, serious discussions brought up or tabled, peace has been made.

  5. A very small sampling

    Sign-along karaoke.
    Car rides with life histories.
    “I’m shooting the lights.”
Sing-along Dr Horrible (and other musicals) on the way to Cedar Point. Poor Joe!
Cake in the face on the front porch of an otherwise tense evening.
Chocolate cake with Bailey’s frosting makes everything better.
Yelling back at the cover band and pinching bottoms in the rain.
    Hottubbing with tiaras.
Sing an impromptu version of “Hard Day’s Night” with a bunch of women smoking cigars in the hot tub.
    Conversations in bathrobes.
Fake exercise videos and blackmail opportunities.

And last but not in any way least, and specifically for you:
Sitting on the bed of my truck in the parking lot next to the hospital (my old apt). Swinging feet off the edge, talking randomly, feeling intimate, and really glad now that I didn’t ruin it by telling you what a crush I had on you! :kotc:

If i haven’t told you lately (or in case you need a refresher for your memory !) I love you dear, and am so very honored that you’re in my life.

  6. Playing Rock Band with you.

Working while you played Wow. (Yes, I really liked that.)

Getting the backyard of the Castle ready for Ger’s surprise party.

    Plaidicon.

    ALL of your hugs. :)

    Miss you.
