Do tell. :)

Also, it doesn’t have to be blatantly a romance song – Time after Time (Cyndi Lauper) isn’t necessarily about romantic love, but it is about love and loyalty. Familial love is good, too. Okay, go!

“Only You” by Yaz (or covered by Joshua Radin)
    “Always Love” by Nada Surf”
    “Your Call” by Secondhand Serenade
    “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton

  2. on my drive home tonight I was singing along to the Talking Heads “Naive Melody (this must be the place)” and thinking about how it is one of my favorite unusual love songs.

dunno if it’s my favorite love song ever, but it is my favorite tonight :)

  3. A Prayer for Santa Lucia, Talis Kimberly

She is hiding joy inside her
But for now she’s telling no-one
    She goes about her business
And her thoughts are full of someone
And she prays to Santa Lucia
For the saint was always gentle
And she tells her body’s secrets
And she lights a hopeful candle with a prayer…

    She remembers all the phrases
That he used on her so sweetly
    And she cherishes the echo
Of his hands upon her body
And she shuts her eyes to conjure him
    Imagines he’s beside her
    And she whispers words forbidden
And her blood turns fire within her at his name

And she cries ‘you know I’m drowning
In his eyes and in his promise’
And she dreams that Santa Lucia gives her
    Water from a chalice, saying
‘Drink deep if you want to, daughter –
Don’t be scared to taste it’ and she
Really thinks she loves him, and her
Head’s so full of music that she sings – and what she sings

    And she cherishes the echo
Of his hands upon her body
And her heart and breathing quicken,
Santa Lucia knows she’s ready for his kiss…

  4. Ok.. Not currently, but at one point this would have been as close to it as I’d have gotten:

Tears of the Dragon, by Bruce Dickinson
For too long now, there were secrets in my mind
For too long now, there were things I should have said
In the darkness…i was stumbling for the door
To find a reason – to find the time, the place, the hour

Waiting for the winter sun, and the cold light of day
The misty ghosts of childhood fears
The pressure is building, and I cant stay away

I throw myself into the sea
Release the wave, let it wash over me
To face the fear I once believed
The tears of the dragon, for you and for me

Where I was, I had wings that couldnt fly
Where I was, I had tears I couldnt cry
My emotions frozen in an icy lake
I couldnt feel them until the ice began to break

I have no power over this, you know Im afraid
The walls I built are crumbling
The water is moving, Im slipping away…

I throw myself into the sea
Release the wave, let it wash over me
To face the fear I once believed
The tears of the dragon, for you and for me

Slowly I awake, slowly I rise
The walls I built are crumbling
The water is moving, Im slipping away…

    I throw (I throw)
    Myself (myself)
    Into the sea
Release the wave, let it wash over me
    To face (to face)
    The fear (the fear)
    I once believed
The tears of the dragon, for you and for me

    I throw (I throw)
    Myself (myself)
    Into the sea
Release the wave, let it wash over me
    To face (to face)
    The fear (the fear)
    I once believed
The tears of the dragon, for you and for me

  5. Thank You by Led Zeppelin:

“If the sun refused to shine, i would still be lovin you
When mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be you and me.”

My husband quoted this to me when we were 14. He won my heart (helps i was already a Led Zeppelin fan, the crafty bastard).

  6. Merril Bainbridge – Under the Water. Yeah, I like ’em surreal.

As a sidenote, I’ve never actually seen that music video up until now.

  7. This is my husband’s and my wedding song. He surprised me at our reception by having it played for us to dance to, even though we said we weren’t having dancing (too small a venue). By itself it might seem a bit creepy, but it’s our favorite R.E.M. song, so wedding song it was. :)

At My Most Beautiful – R.E.M.

    (chorus)
I’ve found a way to make you
    I’ve found a way
A way to make you smile

    I read bad poetry
    Into your machine
    I save your messages
    Just to hear your voice
    You always listen carefully
    To awkward rhymes
    You always say your name,
    Like I wouldn’t know it’s you,
    At your most beautiful

    (repeat chorus)

    At my most beautiful
    I count your eyelashes, secretly
With every one, whisper I love you
    I let you sleep
I know you’re closed eye watching me,
    Listening
    I thought I saw a smile

    (repeat chorus)

  8. Just a few… I have WAY too many..

Time in a Bottle – Jim Croce
“But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
    Once you find them
Ive looked around enough to know
That youre the one I want to go
    Through time with”

You Look Wonderful Tonight – Eric Clapton

Love of a Lifetime – Firehouse
“We’ll make a wish and send it on a prayer
We know our dreams will all come true
With love that we can share

With you I never wonder–will you be there for me
With you I never wonder–you’re the right one for me
I finally found the love of a lifetime
A love to last my whole life through
I finally found the love of a lifetime
    Forever in my heart
I finally found the love of a lifetime”

    And Finally *drumroll*
Love Song for a Vampire – Annie Lennox (From Bram Stoker’s Dracula)

    “Come into these arms again
    And lay your body down
Th’ rhythm of this trembling heart
    Is beating like a drum.
It beats for you, it bleeds for you
It knows not how it sounds.
For it is the drum of drums
It is the song of songs.

Once I had the rarest rose that
    ever deigned to bloom.
    Cruel winter chilled the balm,
And stole my flower too soon
    O loneliness, O hopelessness
To search the ends of time,
For there is in all the world
    No greater love than mine.

    Love….Still falls the rain.
    Be mine forever…

Let me be the only one
To keep you from the cold.
Now the floor of heav’n is laid,
    Its stars of brightest glow.
    They shine for you.
    They shine for you.
They burn for all to see.
    Come into these arms again
    And set this spirit free.”

  9. I Love How You Love Me – Jeff Mangum
Till the Ocean Takes Us All – The Cat Empire
At My Most Beautiful – REM
Guess How Much I Love You – The Lucksmths
Sleepy Tigers – Her Space Holiday “We’re gonna jump in bed and be all alone/ you’ll make biscuits and I’ll make tea/ We’ll curl up close and then fall asleep/ To the sound… of no one else no else around.”

I like my love songs sentimental and kinda bouncy, and the lyrics have to be good.

  10. I’m not a big “love song” person, but I’ve always liked “Every Time I See Your Face” by Live.

I like the opening verse — “I was looking everywhere to find you / By and by my intentions were good / I know I don’t watch where I am walking, but I know I should” — and the chorus is a nice sentiment — “Every time I see your face / Something overwhelms my heart with grace / and I fall behind / I just close my eyes…”

It does remind me of my husband…he was my friend for a long time, and he was always the person whose face I’d see and instantly relax and feel somewhat better about things. Still is! ;)

  11. You get my mushy moment for 2009

I try to keep my sweet and sappy moments down to once a year. I’m diabetic after all. Dave was the first person in my life to really get me and to accept and love me for who I was. The first time I heard this song I just looked at him and thought, “Yup, he’s definitely the one forever”. After 21 years of marriage, yup, he’s definitely the one forever.

    The Bangles – Eternal Flame

Close your eyes, give me your hand, darling
Do you feel my heart beating, do you understand?
Do you feel the same, am I only dreaming?
Is this burning an eternal flame?

I believe it’s meant to be, darling
I watch when you are sleeping, you belong to me
Do you feel the same, am I only dreaming
Or is this burning an eternal flame?

Say my name, sun shines through the rain
A whole life so lonely, and then you come and ease the pain
I don’t want to lose this feeling

    [break]

Say my name, sun shines through the rain
A whole life so lonely, and then you come and ease the pain
I don’t want to lose this feeling

Close your eyes and give me your hand
Do you feel my heart beating, do you understand?
Do you feel the same, am I only dreaming
Or is this burning an eternal flame?

    [break]

Is this burning an eternal flame?
    An eternal flame?

(Close your eyes and give me your hand
Do you feel my heart beating, do you understand?
Do you feel the same, am I only dreaming
Or is this burning an eternal flame?)

  12. I do it for your love

The one that comes to mind is a Paul Simon song.

We were married on a rainy day…
The sky was yellow and the grass was grey.
We signed the papers and we drove away.
I do it for your love.

    The rooms were musty and the pipes were old;
all that winter we shared a cold.
    Drank all the orange juice that we could hold;
I do it for your love.

Found a rug in an old junk shop,
I brought it home to you.
along the way the colors ran, the orange bled the blue.

The sting of reason and the splash of tears,
The northern and the southern hemispheres,
    Love emerges and it disappears.
I do it for your love.

I do it for your love.

  13. Melanie and I sing this all the time.

    I Love You, Baby -Brak

  14. Nothing Else Matters… As odd as it may sound, I just think it’s a really sweet song.
