Urban Assault?!

•June 15, 2007 • 7 Comments

What the hell is an Urban Assault Vehicle, anyway? I picture something tearing up the streets, only to transform into either a rocket launching system or a robot that holds your groceries while you get out your keys.

This, while it may be meant for the urban environment, does not assault it. It slips in unnoticed, like a particularly dark squirrel in the smog of L.A. The word assault does not conjure up an image of vehicles that “stack like grocery carts”.

The game, my friends, is afoot.

There is a timer counting down and SIXTY FIVE fucking pages of geekery at Unfiction. I’m sure it will be separated out into something logical and a little easier to follow soon enough.

Meanwhile… yay!

Spicy Brains, still intact

I’m pleased to note I seem to have survived the zombie holocaust more-or-less intact. Could be because all the zombies I know are online, apparently.

Avid bloggers, them. That is dedication.

I wrote a piece of pirate fiction for a contest. It was less than a thousand words, and I busted it out in about an hour, but the folks I’ve shown it to seem to like it muchly, so maybe I have a chance to win something. I’ll let you know if I do. ;)

As I came into work this morning, my left side was being blasted by the sun, and I remember thinking “Why does it hurrrt?!” in a very Zim kind of way.

I had really, really strange dreams. Someone posted a video titled “The Impotence of Proofreading”, and while the barrage of words was hilarious, I it made my dreams far weirder than average.

I saw Day Watch last night with a bunch of friends. I have to say I enjoyed it very much, and would totally pick it up on video. I didn’t find the way they did captioning to be at all distracting, and I think a deaf person would be even more pleased at the added visual elements.

I turned on the wii last night to break into a little tennis (I’d like to bump my score up to a perfect 200o) and to see if I’d been sent any new Miis in the night, but by the time I was ready, 1 am had reared its ugly head, and I clearly remember how difficult the previous day was, when I was still friends with 3 am, and decided discretion was the better part of tennis-related valor.

I make origami out of the candy wrappers I get from Pat’s unending chocolate supply, here at work.

I am fairly certain I get to see Lucy tonight, for which I am ze geeked.

That is all.

EDIT: I was wrong, that’s not all. I love (love LOVE) all of the orchestral Halo and Halo 2 music. Of course it’s tied into the story for me, which is part of it, but it’s just some great sh*t, yo.

(So’s the puppy, Rhea.)

Isn’t she cute?

A logic argument

•June 13, 2007 • 14 Comments

I really like this guy. He attacks a difficult question with straight-up logic (the kind you may take a class in).

If you haven’t seen this already, take a few minutes to watch this to the end. If you don’t want to watch it now, come back to it later. I think it’s important to think about and discuss these things together.

I think many issues that we tackle are tangled up by us asking the wrong questions (both on a macro and personal scale). This simple scenario asks a better question.

I think we beekeepers should have some sort of contest – who can make a mii we can agree upon for the main characters of ILB?

too bad we can’t add muskles. Or use a vending machine.

If you put a can in a can cooler and then put that in the fridge, does it stay warm?

Day Watch

•June 13, 2007 • 8 Comments

I’m going to see Day Watch, which has been billed by a friend (I guess that doesn’t make sense when you think of where ‘billed’ comes from) as a “Russian Sci-Fi vampire movie” that takes place in Moscow. Apparently, it’s the top selling movie in post-soviet Russia, and came highly recommended by the friend who just saw it.

Anyway, it’s the sequel to Night Watch, and they’re both about a medieval pact between a “light side” and a “dark side” that have representatives keep watch over each other while the other sleeps.

It’s playing today at the Main Art in Royal Oak at 6:40p today – I’ll be seeing it with a few people, anyone’s welcome to join us.
