I love BNL’s Bathroom Sessions on youtube, especially this and this and this and this. (seriously, there’s dozens) Thanks, jes!
I talked via email with my favorite teacher (that I inherited from jupiters_angel), and it was very cool. He’s got some awesome things in the works for himself, and I’m geeked for him and envious of the kids who’ll have him as their teacher.
Dave Sands came over the other night. He’s a high school buddy (one of the few that actually went to my school), and we had a hilariously great time at my place. There was wii and magic and pizza, and lots of memories. We have a lot of interesting things in common as ‘arty geeks’, and have read surprisingly similar sets of books since the teen years.
Lucy totally aced her micro test. It was horribly difficult, but she was in the top of her class after an intense week of study. So, congratulations, lover!
I spent a couple hours watching Chuck’s Roast after work. It was seriously, seriously funny to watch again. Sometimes the audio isn’t great, and sometimes the video isn’t great, but I know I’ll have a lot of fun putting it together. Which reminds me, I need that list of people participating, thatguychuck!
I sense a potential major change in the ol’ LJ after Penguicon. I might take some time with it, this time, maybe even port it into my sub-domain. For the rest of tonight, though, I think I’m going going to pick a random book from this fabulous pile I’ve never read.

I wish I could remember what the multi-timed music was called.
This came up because I was listening to watina, which is in the Garifuna language, which is a mixture of “Arawak and influenced by French, Carib and West African languages”, and was created as a way to prevent his language culture from dying out.

Certain expressions survive from Chinglish, a pidgin formerly spoken in Southeast Asia. They have made their way into colloquial English[citation needed]. Many expressions are literal translations from Cantonese grammar. These include, in English (Chinese character and Cantonese pinyin) format:
* long time no see (好耐冇見 hao2 noi6 mou5 gin3): we have not seen each other for some time (used as a greeting)
* look-see (睇見 tai2 gin3): look and see
* no can do (唔得做 m4 dak1 zou6): cannot do
* no-go (唔去 m4 heoi3): do not go.
That’s totally cool! I didn’t know that. I think of no-go and no-can-do, in my head, as something you’d hear from some seasoned military vet … which I guess makes sense, considering who probably brought these pidgin phrases back to the U.S.
Also, did you know that International Sign Language is considered a pidgin language?
Also, a creole language is one that exists as a mixture of two or more languages, but rather than being used as a go-between for bilingual people is actually taught as a native tongue.

MSN has always been kind of a bitch with GAIM (my multi-chat client of choice), particularly v1.5, which crashes every time I try to log on. In the past month or so, ICQ has also been kind of a bitch, to (*snap snap* look, country? look at me. you’re being kind of a bitch.), with a massive amount of iSpam coming my way.
I was thinking about dropping both, even though I’ve always been sort of geekishly proud of my low-six-digit ICQ #.
However, I hear a number of new things coming down the pipe. First, GAIM is now Pidgin. Same stuff, same software versioning, but now legally settled with AOL, who was being a jerk-and-a-half. This settlement also means a new non-beta version of GAIMPidgin within a week or two. Yay! So I’ll keep MSN and ICQ for a little longer, and hope the new code will make everything A-OK. I’m generally really pleased with this bit of open-source software.
Oh, by the way, mac users? I never realized it, but Adium is based off of the GAIM libraries. Pretty cool!
How many of you used PowWow back in the d-a-y?

DoD to Put Internet Router in Space (slashdot)
narramissic writes “ITworld is reporting that the Department of Defense plans to launch in the first quarter of 2009 a satellite-based router to deliver military communications. Satellite operator Intelsat will manage the three-year Internet Routing In Space (IRIS) project, while Cisco will provide IP networking software for the on-board router. After testing, the satellite will be available for commercial use. From the article: ‘Potential nonmilitary benefits of the IRIS program include the ability to route IP (Internet Protocol) traffic between satellites in space in much the same way packets are moved on the ground, reducing delays, saving on capacity and offering greater networking flexibility, Lloyd Wood, space initiatives manager in the Global Defense, Space & Security division of Cisco, said Thursday.'”

Comments Off on creepy weird
Okay, it’s really… really weird when you go to imdb to check on one of your favorite artists, see what he’s up to… and see him at top center.
Dammit, I don’t have cable. Might have to try to convince them to put it out on DVD.
… oh. I guess it’s already available.

so we have an ad that says “use the internet for more than just leads. and porno.” My question is … who in the modern day says “porno” in that context instead of “porn”?
it’s clearly “A porno” and “SOME porn”
… duh.
