flipping off hot girls

•March 23, 2007 • Comments Off on flipping off hot girls

There’s this video I saw on youtube that I followed from “osama teen hunger
force” called “flipping off hot girls”. It’s dorky, it’s juvenile, it’s
ridiculous … but I could NOT resist laughing. How can you not? This guy
asks a girl for a piece of paper, and flips her off while she fumbles
through her purse… he drops his pen, and while she picks it up, he’s at it
again.

The best was the cameraman asking a girl on a bench what she thought of the
current political situation, and while she’s seriously answering him, this
dork is jumping up and down behind her, both fingers waving madly in the
air.

Frankly, I think MS and Bungie are both full of crap on this one.

I can’t seem to find the article I was first looking at (damn google for making it so easy, yet so hard, to find things), but a security consultant was interviewed who had his account stolen by teens who threatened to do so over XBL, and found their web site online where they posted the names of people whose accounts they jacked, “for talking s***” and other things. I seriously doubt this security analyst was chatting about his credit card/address with these punks.

While most people on the XBL forums sound inane, I still think the problem of stolen ID’s is not about 50-some people all giving out their personal information to people who then later hacked their ID. It’s just not plausible. And if it’s totally true and there’s no other problem, their press releases sound distressingly like our government, with scant information and a quick redirection of blame.

I have to give them credit for being lightning-fast at spinning the matter, though. It’s a difficult situation – you don’t want to lose the trust of people, especially when you’re building up momentum for H3.

About weight

Also, a study on dieting that points toward insaaanity.

Look, the point is to find a way to be happy with yourself. Working out for the thrill of it, and the pleasure of seeing your body change? Great! Eating less fat because you’re trying to do right by your body? Awesome!

We obsess and we cry when we eat a double-cheeseburger, and we listen very intently to those TV News hosts who talk out the sides of their mouths about the modern obesity epidemic while worrying that if they gain an additional five pounds, the producer will axe them in favor of someone who looks a little more … trim.

You have no idea if I’m fat because I looove food, or because I have a thyroid problem, or because I have arthritis that keeps me from being active, or if I have a genetically low metabolism, or if my mom and dad were chubby. That’s my business, and frankly, I may not know either.

And another thing – if I’ve got muscle underneath my fat, if I’m quite capable of any physical feat I desire (except sliding into the newly-shrunk seat belts at Cedar Point), I’m still “fat”. No one looks at body composition (fat to lean ratio) before judging you.

I refuse to obsess about food. I enjoy it, and while I like to eat healthy, I’m not going to get upset if I order a goddamned pizza.

I’m not going to obsess about working out. I enjoy physical activity, and I get pleasure from working out on a regular basis, but if I decide to sit on my ass for a week and play Zelda, anyone who’d make me feel guilty about it can stick it.

I enjoy myself, and I enjoy the life I have. I’ll enjoy you, too, whether you’re 90 lbs or 400+. So stop listening to people obsessed with what you are eating, and start enjoying who you are instead of who you might be. One day.

The Grand Canyon Skywalk

•March 20, 2007 • 26 Comments

Today was the first day anyone has walked on the Grand Canyon Skywalk. 3 inches of glass under your feet, 4,000 feet of air between you and the Colorado River.

I’m totally doing this. If I still had a wall map, I’d put 3 big red pins right in that spot. I think it’s an awesome idea.

Would you?

Holy crap

I now have a 1 TB external drive. It’s almost bigger than my work
laptop and is almost certainly heavier than it. I’ve never seen an
external drive this friggin’ huge… but man is it sweet.

I won’t even say the things I could do with it. I tell you what though
– I’m not flying with it. It’s staying in town, and I’ll be using it
primarily as long-term storage.

But wow.

Also, the new laptop was presented to me by Trase, my own personal Tech
Support Ninja. Yeah, it’s got a hemi 4 gigs of RAM.

Google looks pretty today

•March 20, 2007 • 12 Comments

*chuckle* What a strange day.

I went to sleep at 9 or so last night, got up at 6, played a little zelda, and got ready for work. I put water on the wrong toothbrush, and while putting it back I knocked my vitamins into the running water (closed, fortunately). I chuckled and promised myself I’d be extra-careful driving in to work today.

And so I left ten minutes early, and those ten minutes were handily absorbed by an unexpected and unexplained traffic slowdown. *shrugs* Guess it’s good I left then, eh?

My first ebay sale in years is going at a great pace – I look forward to some fundage.

OH! I remember what I was going to post about. :D The new “My Google” themes (sign in and go to google.com/ig for some fun portal action) are great!

I’ve got the second-to-bottom one (I think), for which you put in your city and it gives you a skyscape based on the time of the day and, possibly, the weather, in a water-color style. I’m pleased!

Also also, I have this song stuck in my head from Karate Kid – “You’re the best around, nothing’s gonna ever keep you down!” and I think it’s the fault of this music video (for a different, modern song) starring all the major living actors from KK. Trippy.
