Fun stuff

•January 6, 2007 • 2 Comments

Today has been an interesting (and fun) day. Good morning time with the Lucy, and a nice lunch with good conversation. We stopped at the store my mom bought my shirts from (Casual Male XL), and I found myself in a completely unique situation – they were almost totally devoid of my size, because it’s the very very bottom of their sizing. That was … well, kinda fun, I guess :) I found a few sweet button-downs that make me look all ‘hot’ (so it is rumoured).

On our way back, my boss called with an incredibly crazy emergency. He’d been at the office for like 12 hours, trying to clean up a mess from our hosting company. I do like it when, for once, he’s calling me for advice on problem-solving instead of blame.

We went back out to Hillers, where we both picked up some quality healthy food. I ran with my meal idea, which involved a great jalapeno-lime bean dip and various cheeses and spices on tortillas, and I had a bowl of corn while she had lima beans. That’s probably the healthiest meal I’ve eaten since christmas.

Tomorrow begins my crazy Auto Show Days, so I’m sure to post about them. ALSO, I’m about 2 months into my annual “review” post (which is always fun, especially ’cause I tend to unlock those very few posts I locked in the first place), so I have that to look forward to.

Finally, I shall end this post on a good note. I was going through that text file I mentioned earlier, and I found a great birthday letter to me that I’d forgotten about. I remember the feeling I had when I received it two years ago, and it makes me grin. I just think it’s really cool that someone would think of me in that way.

They say it’s your birthday (da nananana!)

What are you waiting for?

Sometimes it’s heartbreaking to watch so many people that I care so deeply for crumble underneath the stress they’re dealing with. I wonder all the time (at least once a week) what it is that allows some people to cry it out, stand up, and move on that sends other people to their knees, unable to stand. Is it chemistry? Is it history? Is it one crucial thought that changes everything?

I don’t know. I wish very much that I did.

Lift you head, there’s no time for crying
You made your bed but don’t think its fit to lie in
Wasted on the ground when you know you should be flying
What are you waiting for?

Let it Go Let it Go
This is smaller than you know
No bigger than a pebble lying on a gravel road
Let it Go Let it Go
Got to leave it all behind you
Give the sun a chance to find you
Let it Go

PS, I’m still at the office tonight. Whee!

A little bird told me that my LJ was accessed by someone in Cupertino, CA. I’m incredibly curious as to whether that might be an Apple rep, doing a little name-search. My name cetainly is out there on the web.

I feel like I -should- be nervous about that, but I’m not, really.

EDIT: I’m done here, time to head home.

Also, I forgot to mention that ANOTHER thing I learned today is that well over 1000 years ago, the thing people were reading most was … porn! Seriously. Really funny porn. It was copied and copied and copied, apparently. Go here and find out for yourself.

So

Things I learned today:

My electric shaver has a power “screw” that needs to be adjusted
occasionally – I spent 10 minutes struggling with the thing this morning
because it wasn’t CUTTING my hair. Thank goodness I tend to read
instructions, even on appliances.

Batteries suck.Doesn’t matter how big they are – managing batteries
is just an immense pain in the ass. I actually have runners for the auto
show floor to race my batteries down to our office where they can charge.

Ancient egyptian trash found under some suspiciously asymmetrical
mounds have revealed a few things, including the earliest version of the
“number of the beast” passage of the bible ever discovered. No joke,
the number (in greek, I believe) is 616 in this passage.
Apparently the next official version of the bible will have a footnote that
speaks of this new contention. Rather than calling it the Number of the
Beast, I think we should now call it the Number of Grand Rapids. Still
equally terrifying, but now known for getting some shut-eye around 9pm.

Birthday Spectacular!

•January 3, 2007 • 3 Comments

By near-unanimous opinion, there shall be an event on Saturday, January 27th in Ann Arbor and/or surrounds, in which we shall celebrate the event that has caused my mother perpetual consternation (and heartburn) ever since — that being my birth.

Yes, that was a single sentence.

It shall be celebrated with camraderie and, probably, cake. Cartman says I need punch and pie, but we’ll see. Will we dress up nice or in costume? Will we make naughty jello forms and fill them with deliciously devilish goo? Will we sing together, mostly out of tune but with riotous spirit? Will we shake our money-makers? Will we play darts, cranium, apples to apples, and other games of niftiness?

That’s up to you! The squeaky wheel gets the crisco. Err, I mean grease.

(I would have suggested hot-tubbing, but I doubt the hot-tub rental place has one with room for 30 or more, :D)

PS, when I get home, I do hope to make an icon of the Skenne-pimp photo trasenstine took. :)

Pleo

WHEN I FIRST MEET PLEO, the tiny dinosaur is curled up on a kitchen table, its long tail and big head pulled inward. It’s snoring quietly, emitting a strangely soothing sound, almost like the amplified purring of a guinea pig. I’m tempted to reach out and touch it – but it looks so peaceful, I can’t bring myself to disturb it. Then I realize what I’m doing: I’m worrying about waking up a robot.”

The weekend of the 28th is my 29th

•January 1, 2007 • 13 Comments

Now, again, this is my excuse to get some of you wonderful people in the same room together. Forget about presents or cards unless you absolutely must, and there’s NO obligation here – I’m not going to hold you to your answer. Except Ben. Last year, everyone said they had a great time, and many people made some new friends. I’d love to see more of that!

Come out to say “Happy 29th!” and stay for the inevitable laughter (at my expense) ;)

I said it best last year:

You’ve done enough laundry for the week. Your dog can be shampooed on Sunday. Mom, no time for dyin’, there’s partying to do!

I will also be celebrating my incredible luck in coming across so many fabulous, loving, and altogether awesome people. We should fly off into the sunset and seed a new planet full of people that are cool, 24/7.

If you don’t come, you might miss out!

PS: YOU ARE INVITED, F-List peeps! If it makes you feel better, I will do what I did last year – point each and every one of you out by name and invite you. YOU are welcome, so please come!

PPS: Karaoke has also been suggested. Comment if you’re down with that.

Bookworm Adventures is totally the best gift I ever got for someone else that I (legally) stole for myself. :D

Grandma says you can bullshit others if you must, but never bullshit yourself.

It has been an interesting year. I hope to go through my journal and create my annual report, as I have for the last three years or so – I really love the perspective it tends to bring me, as well as the act of reviewing my previous reports. I learn a lot in these moments, and they often provide me with a good month of thinking fodder. It takes forever to do, though, so I hope to start on it soon.

I’m at Lucy’s place for her family’s holiday party. I had quite a bit of fun today, actually, meeting some great friends of hers as well as jamming a bit to Guitar Hero II. I don’t even much mind sleeping on this ridiculously tiny bed – in order for my laptop to fit, my legs have to pop over the bottom.

We’ve had our fights this weekend – some over nothing much, some less so. In the end, though, we curled up together while we checked our emails, I rubbed her arms while her tongue lolled out like a puppy, and all was well.

The last time I mention this, I do hope
