It’s time to clean off the ol’ hard drive!

•December 19, 2006 • 1 Comment

I’m clearing out my desktop hard drive (now that it’s successfully connected to the laptop), and I’m finding some amazing things in here.

Before I get into it, I’d like to point out the best part.

I kept a file I called AIMNOTES for a few years, and in it I put some of the conversations I had with people that made me feel special. Many people make appearances there (girlfriends yes, but many of the others still knock on my door).

It still affects me to see those genuinely felt words, and even better than that: it reminds me that even those relationships that ended poorly were, in their time, incredibly great things for me.

Whether they’re my dear friend now or are jumping on the hate-wagon (like that? you can use it!), they all said some things to me that were amazingly insightful and soul-filling.

Now, on to the other things I found! Continue reading ‘It’s time to clean off the ol’ hard drive!’

Admittedly, I forward my email from axonphotovideo, but thank fnord that
gmail does such a (generally) good job of filtering, or I’d go insane.
Stop using email entirely, something.

Awesome!

avatrix totally just made my day.

That is all. :D

When I went to visit Katrina and her child, I didn’t expect to, y’know, fall in love.

Her name is Allyson, and she’s two. I’ve always found that, after a small warming-up period, children and animals dig me with few exceptions. Some, though, can’t seem to take their eyes off me from the moment they see me.

Kat’s little one sat next to me for most of the three hours I was there. She ate like a good girl, and showed off her best toys. We (along with mom) played with two big, heavy cylindrical magnets, opposing and attracting, and she giggled and struggled when the magnets bounced away. She was tough – they’d snap on her fingers, and at most she’d ask for a kiss, and keep on playing without fuss or fear. I have to admit that my beard was more substantial (but slightly less hilarious) than her chocolate goatee. It was a fun time to have a furry head, for sure. Every time someone mentioned something she was going to do later, she asked if I was coming, too.

It’s just amazing, to me, how a person can so quickly be swept up by someone else’s child. Erik and Katrina are great people, and their influence is clear on their daughter. I drove home bathed in the glow of her sincere affection.

Kat and I used to talk about how our kids would play together, after we broke up 13 or so years ago, and years later, as well.

Well, I may not have kept my end of the bargain (not having children at the moment), but their child’s got me wrapped around her tiny pinky, nonetheless.

:D

First, a rant, and next, something good

My operating system is so totally fucked, that if I -cut- and -paste- a file, I can no longer access that file. As in, it exists, but in some black hole that doesn’t allow me to ever approach it again. If I cut and paste in Premiere, it shuts down premiere. My computer freezes 50% of the time when I burn DVDs. Also, every time I attempt to reinstall Java, it fails. Even after uninstalling, even going back a few versions.

And this all began when I ran a CHKDSK.

Tonight, I believe I will try to run XP setup overtop the original setup. If that doesn’t work, (or if it jacks it up worse), I’ll have to reinstall completely – at that point, my wrath at XP will be felt, more than heard.

I love going to work late. It would be ideal if my job started an hour later. I wouldn’t at all mind getting out later.

I realize it’s a bit early to be thinking about it, but I’m steeling myself for Auto Show week – 12 hour days for 7 days in Cobo, generally running back and forth (though also editing video like a madman).

I’d best stock up on tylenol or something, ’cause I’ll be hurtin’.

I’m going to visit Katrina (the first woman to corrupt my body, I should thank her for that someday) tonight, way out in the Clem. Her daughter’s 2 now, and judging by her voice on the phone (she insisted on speaking to me), highly entertaining. Whenever I eat indian food, I remember it’s the fault of her family that I tried it, and learned to like it.

Lucy made me stroganoff while I edited her short story, and it made for a fun evening of “doing our things in the same room” before we cuddled up for some Batman Begins action.

And then I terrorized her bird’s playset, Godzilla-style. (No, the parrotlet wasn’t on it.)

A peculiar life, of late

•December 16, 2006 • 1 Comment

Not to be confused with a peculiaire life. I saw her and c0nsumer the other day when we went for some lovelyspicyhot indian food at Ashoka, and then coffee across the street. I had some mint chocolate espresso thing, and coffee generally isn’t my style but it went down just fine. Must be my ‘exposure’ to coffee through my frequent iced vanilla capps in the morning ;).

Beforehand, I spent that time with Apple I’d been talking about earlier. They’re cool people. Perhaps too cool for me. No, seriously. I can often dress myself without too much incident, and I seem to have gathered a fine bunch of friends who enjoy my personality, but the head dude had a way of making me feel frumpy. Thank goodness I shaved my head. Especially since I’ve seen video of jadesfire55‘s concert, in which I can see my lovely bald-spot even when they zoom out all the way. Guess I’d best be more diligent about keeping the old pate shorn!

I do go on, don’t I?
