We were finally successful in rocking out a Mr. Big Duet. And believe me, we had the whole bar singing, yo.
It was much less crowded and smokey this time around, thank goodness.
If you’d like to know what else I sang, I can’t remember. :D
Thanks to Amy and Limey for coming out!
Can’t hear very well this morning though, heh.
Earlier in the day we had BW3’s, where Jer ate a nice bowl of hot bacon and cheese on ice cream. That was so hilarious. You missed it!
… course, I happened to have a video camera with me …

http://consumerist.com/5256770/federal-judge-shuts-down-car-warranty-robocallers
“Oh hell no!” Federal District Judge John F. Grady told a marauding group of car warranty robocallers who managed to annoy pretty much everyone over the past few months. The judge slapped two Florida companies with an immediate restraining order and froze their assets, which should be enough to finally end those maddening robocalls.
I know at least three people who have been inundated by these calls multiple times a day.

Notes about tonight’s 9p Carrie-Okie:
The place is a bit small, and it can be hard to get seats – that said, we (probably) have our own devastatingly attractive gimp who knows martial arts, and I’m totally not above exploiting that for my bum’s sake. (I’m hoping it’ll be easier without the Wings)
It is (or was last week) a bit smokey. I don’t love it, but I can certainly tough it out for awesomeness.
The waitress takes her time.
If any of these things are an issue for you, is cool, de nada.
On the other hand:
NIGH-INFINITE selection of music.
I sing.
Carrie sings (omg good)
Jer sings (if and when he can make it).
Your mom sings (if and when she can make it – she’s not returning my calls right now).
So!
The Inn Place. On Main St, in Royal Oak.
Unrelatedly but I’m too lazy to make a new post, my chair is bent. My leather office chair at home leans heavily to the left, and it is very, erm… awkward. I suppose I can’t expect it to be perfect for over 10 years, but still! I could use some help fixing it!

That is all I know. I can not say where or when, but pizza must be had.
It’s a moral imperative.

I can make a chili burrito with cheese, mind you – I’ve done so, and they can be fairly delicious. But I can not, as yet, perfect the Taco Bell expatriate, the Chilito. Addictive, tasty and utterly portable (so long’s you don’t mind the possibility of magma cooling on your tie), they’ve ceased to exist anywhere even remotely close.
I’ve considered asking a distant friend to freeze a case and send to me for Burrito Emergencies, but it isn’t quite the same.
I just need to figure out the proper proportion of spices …

… ‘cept not seeing my sweetheart, who was taking care of a surgery patient at 7:30 every morning this weekend.
Besides that, I went to the Penguicon wrap-up/transition party, which seemed to go remarkably well. I was inspired by how much got done while partying – it seemed like no matter when I ran into rbradakis (our new Con chair), he was taking care of business in some way.
I had been “volunteered” to do something again this year, and I escaped it handily by volunteering for something else. … what was that? Y’mean … shit.
Oh well. Free food, rock band, good conversation, and time spent with people I don’t see often enough. Thumbs up, all around.

Yesterday, I posted a link to my new column on self-serve commercial licensing, a “commercial commons” idea that would allow makers to commercially exploit your trademarks and copyrights in return for a fixed percentage of the money they earn off those products.
I’ve gotten a ton of email about this, and there’s an interesting thread of people with ideas for a logo to put on products licensed under self-serve. The logo above comes from the excellent Skennedy.
(more at the article)
The point, if you don’t want to head over there, is that we need a license policy between Open Source and Classic Legal Affiliate (or however you want to put it) – something that would allow makers and etsy shop owners to immediately jump into creating, riffing off major IP, and still providing profit (and trademark protection) for those IP companies.
I’m sure conservative old companies wouldn’t use it, but I’d love to see the iconoclastic, independent, punk shops pick this up and run with it. It would save a hell of a lot of lawyer fees, at minimum.
