earthenwood, I know you’ll want to click away from the sheer “WTF?!”, but you MUST watch to the end. That is the best car ever drawn!

Occasionally I wish that I could set it up so my LJ was sent to twitter, 145 characters at a time.
Then I remember that I post so infrequently at present, that most people wouldn’t know the difference. ;)
I’m up late, prolly ’cause I have to go to work extra early tomorrow.
I am geeked about ConFusion and SkennCon, both approaching rapidly.
Lucy seems to be particularly sick right now, so show her some love.
Time to get my ass to bed.
I’m having a moment!
•January 15, 2009 • 16 CommentsThe way we fall in love with our friends is a marvel. The way we remain attached to them, perhaps even beyond the lifetime of the actual friendship, you know?
I had a funny dream about my friend Heather, last night – she moved to Florida awhile back, like Melinda. I haven’t seen either of them in well over a year, but they are my family (like a number of you fine folk), and I adore them.
I suppose I’m feeling the same thing that made me make this cheesy little video – it’s a relief to know that I have friends who will leap into my arms, who miss me when I am not around, and who allow me to completely relax around them.
A few memories, in no order:
- Singing “Just a city boy, living in south Detrooooooit!” in a cheesy Monroe bar
- Lounging on a hotel bed with six or seven peeps
- Driving two thousand miles with my love
- Bellydancing in Chicago
- Lunching on the roof of Michigan Central Station
- Dancing with old friends at Chuck’s wedding
- The Reggae version of “Louie Louie”
- “Is it true it’s always happy hour here?”
- “Scottie Queen, serving up the best ice cream”
- Squealing Heather Missile off the EMU stage
- Gothing up for the evening (Clockwork Orange makeup for extra iconoclast points!)
- Tripping in L-town on Halloween
- My first photo shoot, outdoors, in the dead of winter. Hey, I wasn’t wearing the evening dress.
- Pajama day at The Castle
- Cedar Point with Ben
- One-on-one Magic at restaurants
- The Wee NinjaTM Meijer Tacklehug
- Good Game! with Colleen
- Chinese on Monday
- Being taught to carve wood
- “I could totally make these clouds in photoshop.”
- Penlight photography in D.C.
- Sneaky trip to North Carolina for a birthday
- Losing my hematite under the stars ;)
- Karaoke trios in the great white Rochester
- Water Balloon wars are worth losing the toss
- Rope corsetry and the OSBP
- mini-dogpiles with new friends
There are hundreds of other great memories (some with photos, some without) that I’ve shared with the family I’ve acquired over the years, and I felt the overwhelming need to sit back and acknowledge my fortune.
Thanks for being a part of my life, everyone.
PS If you feel so inclined, tell me about one of your favorite friend-intimate moments (with or without me!)
grumble rumble
•January 14, 2009 • 10 CommentsI was hoping to deal with some car quandaries today, but I’m going to get out a bit late. I’m starving.
What food do you suggest? I’m not cooking tonight, and I’m not going too far from the I-96 corridor in livonia, so… whatcha think?

I made it home a half-hour ago. From work. At the auto show.
As a special dispensation for being at the auto show (and then the office) until 12:30 am, I don’t have to be in tomorrow until 10.
Whee.
I also, I believe, will get a day or two of comp time, but that isn’t official yet. I intend to make it so, at some point, because if they don’t give it to me, I may take it anyway. Immediately. As in now.
Tomorrow should be different.
Damn it
•January 11, 2009 • 13 CommentsIt’s too damn early to have been at work for an hour already.
Also, there’s nothing like starting your 12+ hr day (potentially) by tearing one of your favorite shirts down the center. Good times!
Weird
•January 6, 2009 • 2 CommentsSomeone by exact name is (or was) an accountant in Minnesota. Apparently in May his license was revoked for nonpayment or something, and the state’s accounting (ha!) of it is on the web in PDF form.
And my google-fu sent it to me.
Weirdness.
Workout music
•January 3, 2009 • 21 CommentsHey all,
Looks like I signed up for a trial week at Snap Fitness (expensive once it begins, but they don’t even need a credit card for the trial week).
What music (specific songs) do you like to work out to?
I like a range of tempos (from medium to fast), and lyrics that evoke determination or self-control or something. In other words, depressing music doesn’t really motivate me to go another mile or do that last rep, y’know?
Anyway, leave a comment with some of your favorite songs to work out to.
A very brief review
•December 29, 2008 • 8 Commentsmatt_arnold posted his review more-or-less by commenting on some of the “firsts” he experienced this year, so I thought I’d go over mine.
- In January of last year, I had the great pleasure of celebrating my 30th birthday with many of my closest friends, on the way to and from Chicago via train. First traveling birthday party, first train ride of significant length with at least one companion, and first time meeting someone (a child at the hotel, when we went up to the hot tub) with the same birthday as myself.
- This was the first year I drove 2,000 miles with a partner. It may be the longest route I have ever taken by car. Happily, both blue_lucy and I enjoyed the entire trip, which is always a good sign. ;) P.S., that week counts as the longest consecutive vacation I have ever taken.
- This year, I designed and implemented a complex daily news broadcast that has apparently won an award. My official title is Director and Editor, and while I have many bosses, everyone defers to my technical expertise (… most of the time. heh)
- On that front, this is the first year in which I have had a subordinate – an intern. She is a great one, but it has helped allay some fears that I might not know how to delegate or how to handle being responsible for someone else’s work in a corporate environment. I’m kinda proud of how I’ve handled that, and in the process I followed that had her growing into editing the show when I’m not there.
- I bought a fancy piece of jewelry for my girlfriend. Not that I haven’t acquired jewelry for them in the past, but this one seems different – maybe ’cause she’s different, hmm? It’s no ring, but in a way, it is. ;)
- And finally (and certainly least in this weighty sum of experiences), I allowed myself to get sucked into an MMORPG. And generally find myself happy for it. Though I still look forward to that fantasy day that will never exist when all quests have been quested, and all worthy achievements have been achieved.
How about you? Do you have any firsts this year?
