What the heck.
That meme thing everyone’s talking about

•September 17, 2008 • 5 CommentsI was going to mention yesterday (until I got quite distracted thank you) that I went grocery shopping. This is kind of epic for me, as I’ve spent the last few months attached to the fast-food teat (yes, I said it).
I had the consequences of this rammed sharply into my noggin when I checked the fridge and found an entirely unopened box of milk that was well past its expiration. Further, I attempted to make a frozen pizza that was so freezerburned that the toppings entirely fell off in a thick, solid layer of ice.
Whoops.
However, my job schedule is changing such that I no longer have an hour of lunch. Oh, I will be getting out at 4 from now on, and I can not tell you how exciting that is (seriously, I can’t), but I will be “eating on the run” as they say. Well, as I say, right now.
Thusly, lunch needs to be a pre-prepared priority, preferably and primarily… erm… frozen. Or sandwiches, or other things I can whip up in advance because– have I ever told you how terrible I am about preparing food in advance? It’s not that I despise leftovers, so much as I hate reserving a split-second of my time for “routine maintenance”. If I had a house, it would be in shambles without a rigid calendar that said things like, “replace leaking ceiling today or suffer Lucy’s wrath.” I think she’s pretty cool with that, though.
So I made my way to lunch, and the climax to the story, if any, is that I bought and made food for lunch and lived happily ever after.
HOWEVER, the reason I actually wasted all of your time thus far is that if you live within a reasonable distance of the Meijer at 8 and Haggerty, and desire anything one might find in the frozen food section, I highly suggest you skedaddle on over within the next week or two. They’re doing maintenance on the section, and all of the frozen food is crammed into two aisles instead of three. Upshot is, deep discounts, my friend, and low low prices!
I’m just sayin’, I saved 20 bucks.

I woke up giving a detailed explanation to someone about what Miracle berries are and do. I even had the facts down right in my cream, but what a weird thing to wake up to.

Jake von Slatt, one of the steampunk laptop creators and famous steamy dude, has linked to an interesting speech about why people do what they do re: steampunk, and I thought it might be useful and interesting, particularly, for those of you that say, “I don’t get it.”
I’m not wedded to it, heart and soul, but it makes some interesting connections that I won’t disagree with. I do think people interested in anachronistic technology are more likely to fully grok that we’re living in our own world of technology that will, soon enough, be obsolete.
One day people will chat amongst themselves in the HyperCafe where they can get their NewCoffee and say to each other, “Can you believe they used silicon? And that they made toxic waste? Where’d they think -that- was going? What was with those goofy people of the 20th century?”

Lucy reports that gas at our local pump (3.99 last night) is at 4.29 right now. If you’re low, I suggest getting it now.
Check out the sweet-ass greenscreen tech we’ll be using in the new studio.
•September 10, 2008 • 8 CommentsThe paperwork is complete. They estimate it will be finished by the end of this calendar year. I’m more skeptical, I think our full studio won’t be ready to shoot in until early next quarter.

My friend fieldsofseaweed successfully defended her Master’s thesis and is now working for a company called Regeneron. Among other things, apparently, they’re working on a drug to combat Macular Degeneration. How cool is that?
Sources here at the office say Kwame is 5 minutes away from pleading guilty.
•September 3, 2008 • 3 CommentsThat means no more Kwame as mayor – a felony conviction is an automatic ejection.
EDIT:
Kwame Kilpatrick expected to plead guilty at 9 a.m. Thursday
Judge Edward Ewell Jr. presiding judge of the Criminal Division of Wayne County Circuit Court said the mayor’s court appearance has been put over until 9 a.m. tomorrow in front of Judge David Groner. It had been anticipated that the mayor had been planning to plead this afternoon before Ewell, but that did not take place.
Felicia Day sings “Still Alive”
•September 2, 2008 • 8 CommentsDid you ever think you’d see Felicia Day from Dr. Horrible sing Still Alive with Mr. Coulton?
That’s what we poor SOB’s missed by not going to the Penny Arcade Expo, by the way. *s* Frickin’ August!
Cool things about Chrome so far:

A) It is lightning frickin’ fast. Who knew that so much time was being spent waiting for javascript to load?
B) You can create icons on your desktop for frequently used web applications. I haven’t tried it yet, but that means you can easily put gmail in your start menu. Not that you couldn’t do that by making shortcuts to web sites, but this looks simple.
C) The intro tab page is pretty cool, with thumbnails of your six most frequently visited web sites.
D) in the “omnibar”, the domain name of the site you’re on is in black, and the rest (the http:// and the /update.bml , presently) is gray. When you type things into the address bar, its predictive text is based on the domains you’ve been to before, meaning if I type in “live” and hit enter it’ll go to LJ and not to LJ/update.bml or some other random page I was at once.
E) Ctrl tab and Ctrl T still work like in firefox, thank goodness. Man, this is fast.
Fun.
Ooh, something maybe unrelated – did you notice on the LJ update page that you can change the size of the text box? I see a grey set of dots in the lower right and I can resize to my pleasure.
