You may remember me railing against the Enzyte commercials: “What the hell does Natural Male Enhancement mean, anyway, that I’ll suddenly enjoy doing the dishes?”
Well, apparently the U.S. didn’t like Berkeley Premium Nutraceuticals either: “Warshak could be sentenced to 20 years in prison and his company could forfeit millions based on the convictions.“

When I’m really, really laughing, I’m often half-wheezy, half-weepy.
Garfield minus Garfield made me do such a thing, all by myself.

Yes, I believe I do. They are singing about the best thing I’ve ever seen for holding up my pants.
Not only are they double-tongued (and you know I prefer that), but they’ve got philips, flathead, and hex wrenches incorporated in the design. I may not be “shredding powder” or worried about a “binder catastrophe”, but I am all about an elegant form/function combination.
Besides, my current belt is warped all to hell.
Don’t bother buying it for me for christmas, I’m going to get it now. Oh wait. I could always use another, in case this one dies.
If it’s good enough for Cory Doctorow, it’s good enough for me!

“We know we have a finite resource. We know it won’t last forever,” says Yuma city manager Sanderson. “But we certainly don’t respect the resource more than we respect the people.”
Scientists and engineers say there’s a clear lesson from the Republican River saga: water and energy are inextricably linked. “They will be the two driving forces of the future,” says Knox. “And we’re starting to see the future in this region.” Professor Schnoor calls ethanol simply “a bridge fuel” to undiscovered and truly environmentally friendly technology. Meanwhile, with warm months just around the corner and a meeting with state officials in Denver to discuss the pipeline that he opposes, Adamson is frustrated. “Trying to solve problems by using the same old techniques doesn’t solve the problem,” Adamson says. “We’re going to make the area a desert. It’s going to be uninhabitable.” And that would be a high price to pay. – Newsweek
I’ve got a few thoughts about this. First, I see this all the time, where people say things about how one shouldn’t value a resource over people. I understand the feeling there, but it’s not sane. You’re not talking about one person, or ten people, or a thousand people. You’re talking about decimating the water for an entire region, making it difficult not just to grow crops, but to keep animals, to keep the land reasonably cool, and any of the millions of things we do with water every day.
Adamson up there isn’t an ecology non-profit volunteer, he’s a farmer. The ARG “World Without Oil” was pretty cool and interesting – when’s “World Without Water” coming out?
The other thing, more of a media geek comment, is that I really hate summary lines in news articles. They remind me of the smarmy aren’t-I-funny puns in the evening news. Isn’t the sentence, “We’re going to make the area a desert. It’s going to be uninhabitable.” enough of a stinger without telling us the value? Ugh.

I generally dislike morning show banter, but today, late for work, I was listening to 89X, and the girl was saying that she drove her husband out of the house during the eclipse because she was singing Total Eclipse of the Heart.
Apparently, he thought she sounded like Bill Cosby, and one of the other DJs pulls off a flawless Cosby singing Total Eclipse of the Moon, and I was laughing hard enough to cry.

Everything’s been arranged: I’ll be in New York for the auto show from March 18th (Tuesday) to March 21st (Friday). I’ll have at least the whole day Tuesday, and probably more, if anyone near downtown NY wants to hang out.
I’ll be staying at the Sheraton this year.
Relating to the earlier post, I sent in a half-page summary of why I lust for the post-production conference, and my boss will basically take it to -his- boss when he returns tomorrow.

There’s a 5-day conference in Vegas in April (immediately preceding Penguicon) for which I have a total woody.
When I say that, what I mean is that if you looked at me, you’d probably see electricity arcing off my head.
My boss is in a meeting all day, but I’m going to try to convince him to pay for part or all of this conference.
Hell, if I could just get him to let me go and pay for the flight, I’d get a credit card and pay for the conference myself.
What I probably wouldn’t be able to convince him to do is pay for getting certified in FCP (since we use Adobe)… however, I could pull off the 700 extra bucks by selling my body while I’m there.
I’d best start working out.
