Lumus Optics
How dorky, exactly, does this guy look? Oh, that I could be that dork.
These are microdisplays with mini projectors. It “projects an image akin to a “60-inch screen from 10 feet away.” Its Light-guide Optical Element (LOE) technology allows the imagery to be reflected back on to the lenses so users can view them, all while being transparent enough to allow you to focus on the humans, trees, road block, or board room presentation ahead of you.”
Click the above for details, or here for a photo gallery with hot GPS action.
Product will be unveiled at the CES in 3 days.
Did you know that in 2005, there were still 1,600 customers for DC (that’s Direct Current, son) in downtown NYC? No longer, however the NY subway runs on DC to this day.

I haven’t posted in awhile, so I’ll try to be concise. [Edit: FAIL!]
I successfully filmed a concept car today using our brand new video hardware. The software needed to process it should come in tomorrow – once that’s done, I’ll have a solid idea of where we stand (product-wise), but I’m proud. I stood up and became the Multimedia Editor at my job, making decisions that required the spending of over $10k, and it looks like my decisions will be validated shortly. From what I’ve seen through the camera, I think there will be a solid quality improvement in our video. I have three more to do next week (in advance of the NAIAS), and at least five or six to do during the show itself.
This, and much more!

But I’ve got an early video gig in Auburn Hills. Guess I better get moving.

Also, I’ve been weirdly sick in one way or another for the past month. It’s very annoying, I’m not used to being sick at all. Go away, phlem!
Also also, I discovered that I never finished my 2006 LJ review, and found the document in which I was working (ich, local copy), and put said copy in a google doc so I can finish it and start on my 2007 review, heh.
Working on the yearly reviews gives me a chance to go through nearly all of my previous year’s posts (a great memory tool), highlight the important ones, and make an easy reference for myself and others to go through later.
I’d rather look at the dozen posts I highlight in a given month via my review than have to hunt through my impressive post flood.
The other nice thing about making the review is that I tend to write my descriptive titles then, rather than at first posting.

Genius that I am, when I went to Leo’s with Jeska and her boyfriend, Brad, I opened a tab and never closed it.
So they’ve had my credit card ever since, and they haven’t responded to my voicemail, and I found out while on my way to Cleveland. I survived there, but now I’m home and I’m going to have to use all my cash to fill my tank and hope hope hope that I’ll be able to slide into Leo’s tonight (they have a pay-at-the-door gig at 8) and get my card, fly to Lansing before the snow -really- hits, and spend the evening with my lovely friends.
Ever see Hackers? You know the part where Cereal Killer asks Lord Nikon if he can crash at his place again? That’s how I felt when I called Amy and Alex this evening shortly after discovering we were going to be deluged with snow.

It’s one of those things where you say, “Hey, I already have a multitool, but … mmmm tasty!”

Number 7 on the top Scientific Breakthroughs of 2007 (according to wired):
Engineers Create Transparent Material as Strong as Steel
Engineering researchers at the University of Michigan have created a material similar to “transparent aluminum,” the fantastic substance described by Scotty in Star Trek IV. In the Oct. 5 issue of Science, Nicholas Kotov showed that clay is good for far more than making bricks and expensive skincare products. The earthen material is made up of phenomenally strong nanometer-sized particles. When arranged neatly between thin layers of a sticky but weak plastic, the tiny bits of dirt act as the ultimate reinforcements — giving the ordinary material extraordinary strength. The sturdy composite could be used in lightweight armor or aircraft.
See, Michigan is good for something! I want my transparent aluminum, please.

Comments Off on Hobo references remind me of Trase
Closing Thoughts (liveblog)
griffinjoystiq: Well, I think the Oscars could take a number of pointers from the VGAs [SK: Spike’s televised Video Game Awards].
JustinAtTheVGAs: Oh yeah?
griffinjoystiq: First off, hire presenters who don’t know anything about what the awards show is about. For instance, hobos.
griffinjoystiq: All hobo presenters would be a major improvement.
JustinAtTheVGAs: I think they’re moving in the right direction. The exclusive trailers are a really good step.
griffinjoystiq: I’m not done.
JustinAtTheVGAs: Please, continue.
griffinjoystiq: Paint the names of award winners on ladies. There’s no reason not to.
griffinjoystiq: Also, have every third presenter fart into the microphone. Considering your presenters will be hobos (if you’ve followed my instructions so far), this shouldn’t be too hard.
griffinjoystiq: OH SHIT IT’S STARTING AGAIN
JustinAtTheVGAs: Well, let’s sign off before it’s too late.
griffinjoystiq: Wanna liveblog it again?
JustinAtTheVGAs: Die in a fire.
griffinjoystiq: Pussy.
