Morgan Webb from G4 kinda looks like my friend the_leewit.

In other news, my web connection is truly horrendous. Nothing is working right or for long, though IM is slightly more reliable. Heck, I’m posting this (if successful) on a weird white page with no styling or images.

*grumble mutter*

Tecumseh!

•December 11, 2007 • 7 Comments

So, the good news is, I went to the doc, and while I was there, he gave me prescriptions for my various anti-kitty meds, so I won’t be hacking up a lung this holiday season.

The not-so-good news is that my throat pain is a viral issue that will just have to go away on its own. My excellent doctor made a half-dozen suggestions (salt-water, tea and honey, vitamins, etc), and I had to tell him I’m already doing all of those things.

It was almost worth getting lost in Tecumseh in order to chat with him for an hour. How many people have a doctor who really cares about your whole health, and isn’t just trying to shove you through the door?

So, could be a day, could be a week, can’t really say. Since I’m not really “sick” and could have probably slogged through this at work, I’m slightly annoyed that it comes during my time off, but, eh, them’s the breaks.

The other not-so-good news, for me, is that those 3 scrips came out to 95 bucks. I can tell you, I will be carefully regulating their use, because I just can’t afford to do that every month.

NEED RIDE! WILL PERFORM TRICKS

•December 10, 2007 • 7 Comments

EDIT: Once again, Ivy saves the day!

My other ride to the airport this Thursday’s fallen through – is there anyone nearby who could pick Lucy and I up on Thursday around 5:30 or so, in Plymouth, and take us to the airport?

I’ll be home all day, if you’d like to spend some time with me in advance, but even if someone can shoot by here directly after work and see us to the airport, I’d be terribly grateful. Alas, I’m out of options!

Next Band Name: Solid State Covet

120 gig Solid State drives, anyone?

This is so sweet. Hard drives as we know them will soon face extinction as solid state (Serial ATA, even) drives continue to grow in size.

What’s the big deal, my non-techie friends ask? I’m so glad you did!

SSD hard drives are similar to your pocket flash drive. They’re fast, reasonably impervious to shock, have zero moving parts, and are completely, totally silent.

So if you built a computer with an SSD drive and passive air circulation (fanless), it would be utterly quiet. Until you played a DVD. :D

I love the future! :D

EDIT: In other covetous news, I present to you The Steampunk Web Cam. Hot.

EDIT 2: The No-jack phone is intended for people who don’t have a land line. It shifts your cell phone calls to a normal-size land line style phone. How cool is that?

EDIT 3:

The awesomest clock

How much do I love you, that I’m editing my posts instead of making 6 in one day?

On another grim note:

Fogo doesn’t have lunch on Saturday. Or Sunday. Only dinner, which is fifty freakin’ dollars.

We’re considering Tappas instead, but I would only be more bummed if I didn’t have 18 of my favorite people seeing me to 30 in Chicago.

Not my finest hour

The sharp pain in my throat has persisted. I took a picture of it, though I’m not posting it to save your sensibilities and, perhaps, lunch. Lucy and I agree (in our amateur way) that it isn’t strep, but have little clue, otherwise, so I’ve got an appt. with my doctor tomorrow. My theory is that I scratched the back of my throat with sharp food and there was infection.

Neither of us are really familiar with your typical tonsilitis though, so maybe it’s that. That would suck, on my vacation.

Alas, I haven’t seen my doctor for a few years, and he’s moved. To Tecumseh, MI. So I’ll be driving an hour to see him.

But see him I will, because he’s been pretty awesome so far and so many people have bad doctor experiences – I’m not going to go see an asshole when I’m sick, know what I mean?

Meanwhile, I’ve been taking my various painkillers and decimating a bag of strawberry halls. My teeth are going to be pissed at me when this is over, but it provides immediate relief to the kind of pain that makes all of your muscles tense up, whenever I swallow.

I’ve also been gargling with saltwater at various points, just to keep you up on my home remedies.

It’s funny, I may get sick only once a year, but it’s totally unpredictable as to what that entails.

EDIT: Okay, so most of you know my relationship with my mom is warm but not exactly intimate. Still, I called her, and she’s sick too, and after hanging up… well, yeah, it did make me feel better.

I’m about to have more green tea with honey, and take my multivitamin and vitamin c. Take that!

Woo hoo!

The great blue_lucy set up the reservations for our group at the downtown Courtyard Marriott in Chicago – a stone’s throw from Fogo’s. So, we’re pretty much all set, ‘cept for my evil scheming, natch.

Our current thinking:

Lunch at Fogo’s.
Possibly seeing the sketch comedy play Too Much Light (Makes the Baby go Blind), though it’s a bit far away for public transport.
The hookah bar.

Beyond that, I’m sure we’ll be bringing scores of games, and probably various fun drinkies, and who knows?
