GPS deets

Generally, my covet list is gadgety pie-in-the-sky goodness – things still in R&D. However, mum expressed an interest in picking up a GPS for me for christmas, so I figured I’d better figure out what the heck I want, and try to keep it (relatively) cheap.

The whole thing makes my head ache. There are so many options, and it’s such a subjective experience. The Mio H610 has all the features I need without the bloat I don’t, but it’s tiny, tiny tiny.

The Magellan 4000 seems larger and has a better record, but what’s the navigation like? I couldn’t play audio books or music through it, though that’s not a terrible tragedy, since I have my shuffle.

This TomTom ONE XL has a nice large screen, but I just heard someone complain the other day about how the interface infuriated them. Now, I’ve never used it, maybe it’d be easier for me, but that makes me hesitate. … and there’s the TomTom ONE third edition (yes, how confusing is that?!) which isn’t as large, but has the latest system updates.

*boggle*

And I thought computer upgrades were a PITA.

Glen Phillips, lead for Toad the Wet Sprocket, is playing (solo) at the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts on April 5th. 7pm. 27 bucks.

Who’s interested?

(PS, the music video I made of my peeps used a song from TtWS)

It’s a silly little thing …

… but my sister recorded a bit of my speech as the best man at my uncle’s wedding a few weekends ago, and I thought I’d share it with the rest of you. :)

What’s really funny about my comment in the video is that when I was 16, we looked so much alike, we could have been mistaken for brothers (even though he’s 20 years older).

Hey folks, I won’t be online today because I’m going to a video training session for work in Farmington. :)

Hey there folks, all sorts of stuff has been going down the past few weeks, but I haven’t really bothered to post about it here.

As you saw with the link, I spent time with my family in the greater Philly area, and it was totally great. I spent lots of time with my sister, Rachael, and I stood up in my uncle’s wedding. I posted the video Rachael took of my speech on facebook, if you want to check it out.

I spent the weekend at a formal ball and a very brief stint at Conclave (my first!), and finally watched the last episode of season 2 of BSG with Lucy. Yay!

I’m not sure what I’m doing this week as of yet, except more work on these danged projects and hopefully a little social time.

Meanwhile, Hear ye, L.A.-area peoples: I’ll be in Los Angeles from, I believe, Tuesday, November 13th to Thursday, November 15th. If it turns out this way, Tuesday night should be totally free, and the other nights are up in the air depending no how much work I get done during the day.

So if you’d like to see me, and you’ll be in the area at that time, please let me know! I can’t say when I’ll be in the area again.

I backed my car into a cop car the other day
Well he just drove off, sometimes life’s ok
I ran my mouth off a bit too much, oh what can I say
Well you just laughed it off, it was all ok

And we’ll all float on, ok
And we’ll all float on, ok
And we’ll all float on, ok
And we’ll all float on any way, well

Well, a fake Jamaican took every last dime with a scam
It was worth it just to learn some sleight-of-hand
Bad news comes don’t you worry even when it lands
Good news will work its way to all them plans
We both got fired on the exactly the same day
Well we’ll float on good news is on the way

I’ve come to like this song, even though I didn’t, initially. It always reminds me of family-style friendship. Everyone “runs their mouth off a bit too much” once in awhile. It reminds me that there’s much value in letting go of the small things when you love someone and know they aren’t trying to be a dick. Not every stupid comment requires a stern talking-to, and not every dumb-ass statement threatens the end of a friendship.

There are people in my life who’ve let me slide when I’ve been a jerk (not recently, I do hope), and I hope I’ve spread that out, a bit, too.

And we’ll all float on, ok

EDIT (5 am): Life’s just fucking weird sometimes. And sad.

I see the giant ice-penis sculpture, and I just giggle. How fun must that have been to make?

What I find most amusing about looking at the pictures taken at the Folsom Street Fair by the Catholic League (NSFW pictures on their official web site) is trying to discern in each picture what they’re most offended by. For instance, there’s a picture on page 2 of a girl pursing her lips toward another girl’s nipple. She’s being painted, though, it certainly isn’t a sexual expression on her face.

Also, there’s a lot of man-ass in those pictures, and no full-frontal nudity (in fact, most of the men showing their ass are wearing jock straps).

The top picture on the first page is pretty different from all the rest – a man leans forward, supported by another guy pulling on three chains, all attached to hooks in his back. They’re both wearing pants – I have to bemusedly wonder what the Catholic League think is going on in that picture. “Look, one guy’s got his boot on another guy’s butt area! That must be perverted.” kreie posted about it, saying that someone elsewhere in the interweb said, “This is outrageous that such behavior is tolerated in America. I demand to see these pictures immediately so I’ll know what sort of filth needs to be avoided.” Hehe, seriously.

I try not to get too sad about people who get upset about the kinks of other people. Continue reading ‘I see the giant ice-penis sculpture, and I just giggle. How fun must that have been to make?’

Twas yum. :)

Lunch today was a grilled cheese on seven-grain bread, with parmesan and rosemary on either side and chicken noodle soup with ground pepper.

Those of you sick of the Halo 3 hype might want to watch this video by my favorite high-falutin’ game theory magazine, The Escapist. It’s british, it’s cranky, and it’s sort-of safe for work, though some of the dialogue is a bit naughty.
