Uncle John’s Wedding

If you’re curious, the firestarter-lookin’ girl in my icon here is Jenny in those photos.

In the morning, I’ll be flying to Philly with my mom, gone for 4 days.

While I’m there, I’ll be the best man for my uncle. It’s a fairly casual wedding (his third), but I’m still a teeny bit nervous.

I forgot to get my big book of drawing from its current location, so it won’t be traveling with me.

80-hr candle

I think that’d be awesome in a steampunk environment.

Verizon To Stop Extending Contracts Due To Rate Plan Changes

•October 2, 2007 • 2 Comments

Verizon announced today that they are ending the often complained about practice of extending contracts when customers request rate plan changes.

The change comes after Sprint was recently sued by the Minnesota Attorney General for violating Minnesota’s Consumer Fraud Act and Deceptive Trade Practices Act by unfairly extending the contracts of hapless consumers.

Don’t run out and change your plan now, though. The new policy goes into effect on Oct 7.

Ferritin to be used in uber-thin computer memory?

Reportedly, the researchers have found that by using ferritin, metal memory cells could be arranged on substrates sans heat, which consequently allows for thinner substrate materials to be used. The method could eventually lead to “computers being built on thin films that could then be integrated into eyeglass lenses or into clothing,” which could add a whole new dimension to wearable electronics.

Okay, so I’m nearly single-mindedly covetous of invisible, casual computing using material indistinguishable from everyday wear.

Everyone (okay, everyone I know) has their science fiction dream. Some people want a colony on Mars. This one’s mine.

A fun evolution

I giggle inside (and sometimes outside) whenever someone calls me “Sken”. Skennedy was a nickname that stuck due to a number of situations, but Sken is a sort of organic thing – some people just make a nickname of my nickname. I think they tend to be folks who feel pretty affectionately for me.

I’ve always found it fascinating how hard it can be for people to understand or pronounce my nickname the first time it is said, until they have the context. “You know, S. Kennedy.” “Ohhhh!” As someone with an incredibly simple first name, I’ve not really had the same problems that, say, Preeti or my high school friend Shachar Laks have.

PS, speaking of Sken:

Don’t forget. SkenneCon 2008. End of January, my birthday celebration. You know you want to be there.

I’m going to start talking about getting train tickets soon, so we don’t see a jump in pricing. It’s really cheap, right now!

Also also (wik), I’ll probably do a little something local, too. :) Any excuse to get together, right?

I’m looking through some really old archives of my web site, and wow. It’s amazing to see photos I forgot were ever scanned, y’know?

(stars in those links include myself, skippy, ann, jeska, jana, tori, scott thom, sam, joy, and more)

I’m amazed at the sort of things I did before livejournal and flickr and all the rest. And vaguely horrified at the sort of site I used to build for myself back in 2000.

At least my original original web site is not archived, and I refuse to tell you what the domain used to be! It was so horrendous – every page on the site had a different, vibrant, impossible-to-read-over background. Oh, don’t worry – I just bolded all of the text to make it easier. ;) Hey, there’s only so much you can do with Netscape Navigator Gold and paint. ;)

“Use Enzyte once daily for natural male enhancement!”

So, what kind of male enhancement are we talking about, here? Better biceps? More propensity for washing the dishes? The ability to cry at Fried Green Tomatoes?

” ….. er, he has a car!”

Reply here, and I’ll tell you some stuff I think is awesome about you.

Maybe I’ll number or outline it, and maybe I’ll be serious, but you really can’t rely on these things. I may use photoshop, or equations, you won’t know until you try me. :)

If you think it’s fun, repost at will – consider this a mutant meme, and put your own spin on it!
