Serenity on the big screen once a month?

•August 21, 2007 • 18 Comments

I am not sure whether I’m going Saturday or Sunday to the charity screening of Serenity in Ann Arbor on September (22 or 23) – it depends on my homies. My homies have reminded me that I’m going to Fest on Sept. 22nd. So I’ll be doing the Serenity charity screening on the 23rd.

Strangely, I hear that it’s also playing this weekend at the Main Art in Royal Oak (non-charity). So, I’m tempted to hit that up, too.

Tonight, though, I’ll be going to a usability lecture with netmouse that discusses the differences in designing for the Baby Boom generation vs the “Net” generation … which reminds me, I’d better get my ass on the road, since I need to pick up cash (which I never carry).

PS has anyone seen a full-size version of this icon? I’m loving Kaylee next to the engine. Also also, I guess the Serenity: Collector’s Edition is coming out very shortly. I already have the original, though, and I don’t know the difference between the two.

DAMN IT! I had an hour-long conversation with childe three weeks ago about This very concept, and here I thought I was soooo inspired.

*sigh*

A bit late.

People who use “huh?” in response to a complex question should die in a fire. XD

Discuss!

So how was your weekend?

SK: I had an amazing weekend.

K.T.: very cool

K.T.: what did you do?

SK: Lucy came up to visit thursday night (Zelda time!). She busied herself while I was at work on Friday (told me she was at the mall and playing games) and met me here so we could go to Trase’s to socialize. We had a great time with Trase and George (fabulous food), and when we came back to my place, I discovered that while I was at work, she had cleaned.

SK: And when I say cleaned, I mean she vacuumed, did my dishes, cleaned my bathroom, did my laundry, organized my papers, and bought (my favorite) food for me. She left white flowers on two of my tables, as well as my keys (which I hadn’t asked for), and picked up some of her things that were still here.

SK: She wrote a note to explain that she understood I have moved on and didn’t want this to be confused for some strange attempt to win me over – she just wanted to thank me for being there for her and helping her grow. And she knew that having a clean and organized place would help me work on my projects, which has thus far been quite true.

K.T.: wow

K.T.: sounds excellent

K.T.: both the act and the reasoning

SK: We spent saturday just hanging out, playing games, store hopping, and watching Better Off Dead.

SK: She’s in Cleveland, with her family, for the week.

To say that Lucy is a sweetheart is to dramatically understate how very cool she is. When she says that she wants the best for me, that seeing me happy makes her happy, she isn’t just blowing smoke. She really does want to see the best for me, by my definition, and it is amazing to have someone in my life who believes in that, no matter what.

Our break-up has been hard, confusing and painful. Yet it’s also been a humbling experience and a growing-closer. I feel incredibly, incredibly lucky to have such a loving, thoughtful, straightforward person in my life. She’s taught me so much since I first got to know her, and I look forward to learning much more.

Philly, Uncle, Rachael

I talked to Rachael today, and told her I’ll be in Philly for my uncle’s wedding. Yes, the one where I’m supposed to be the best man (so sayeth my mom, but in this family, who knows, heh).

She’s taking the weekend off her R.A. duties, in case we might be able to hang out. If all goes well, it will be the… third? time I’ve seen my sister in my life. *grin*

I may get to see my cousins, too, but there’s some sort of family drama, of course, and to some extent the generations have split apart. Or so I hear. *rolls eyes*

I miss my family, that is for certain. It is also certain that I am glad I do not live close enough to be embroiled in shenanigans. I would love to live closer to my sister, but I don’t think I could survive living closer to everyone else for more than a few months.

Hurricane Dean from Space.

Christopher posted a few videos of Hurricane Dean from space (ISS and the shuttle), and I have to admit, I am less impressed by the hurricane as I am by just watching the clouds moving over the earth.

For some reason, this close-up video is just SO much more impressive than still photos or distance video. It seems to me that you get a feel for the depth and complexity of our atmosphere.

Cool.

Steampunkishness is a good word.

I bought Better Off Dead. Finally.

Also… Conan. No, not the red-head – the one who sprays the fields with the blood of his enemies.

Seriously.

Carrie tells me that in The Destroyer (which comes with The Barbarian), Grace Jones shows her kitty if you pause it just right.

Also also, Trase gave me her extra small bits of metal and gears and things, and I now have a small solder tool, and am on the lookout for other bits and pieces that might make for fun steampunkishness.

I’m looking at a pair of vintage welding/motorcycle goggles (yeah, I know, but they don’t make a distinction) on e-bay that I could work up into something fun. Some of them are cheap (ten bucks), and some not so cheap (40? hmm).

Here I sit, trying to avoid doing actual work on a Friday, and … everyone’s … being productive?

I mean, WTF, people? Where’s the random pointless posts and IM pokes? heh.

Please wait – Rendering

This is so true. Maybe that’s why I love video editing. Complex layering? Text effects? Rotoscoping? Might as well go get a burger, it could take all day.

PS I totally want to work at a place just like that. Compete in a swordfighting-on-a-chair tournament while videos are rendering? Fucking awesome.

PS Livejournal is giving all paid members a free one dollar coupon to send one of those little widget gifts. So, send me a pair of handcuffs, a brain in a jar or something else. ;)

I’m not even mentioning today’s xkcd reference to Ender’s Game – it’s so close to my heart, hehe.
