I have the strong urge to go buy bits of brass and copper and a soldering iron. It’s like Oxy-Ace welding, y’know, just … smaller. :D

(For those who are saying, “huh?”, Google will start allowing people to “embed” their map on their own web page just like you embed video with youtube.)
An Onion Excerpt
•August 14, 2007 • Comments Off on An Onion ExcerptI LOVE thoughts like this:
The announcement has come as a shock to those close to the Japanese star, who claim that for Kobayashi, eating was more than just a hobby—that a powerful, mysterious force deep inside of him compelled him to eat. Many expected him to continue eating until the day he died.
“Takeru used to live, breathe, and eat food,” said Hideki Ihara, Kobayashi’s uncle. “Not a day went by that he didn’t eat. He based his whole day around it. He’d be down in the kitchen every morning at the crack of dawn, squeezing in an early meal. He’d be the last one at the dinner table each night. In fact, he loved it so much that he would leave his job in the middle of the day and spend his lunch hour eating food. Now that’s dedication.”
“I don’t know how he’s going to survive without eating,” Ihara added.

That’s it.
•August 14, 2007 • 4 CommentsCarrie: Good call. I should try that out.
Carrie: And then rip apart all my clothes at the seams. It will motivate me.
Carrie: Not having clothes will.
Carrie: So what do you want to do with your life?
Me: *laugh* Yay naked! I have some clothes that don’t fit but have neat designs on them. What do I want to do with my life? I want to express myself – I want to make enough money to travel, and I want to say things that make people stretch and grow. Mostly, I want to learn and think and collaborate and explore and have adventures, as much as possible.
Me: I want to be both revered and passe, like Madonna.
Me: ;)
Carrie: So, a pirate. Right?
Me: Fuck yeah.
Carrie: I think that’s genius.
Me: I’ve got the hat for it.

I really don’t have anything to say, except that this post exists so the big huge image for Ceiling cat is watching you masturbate isn’t at the top of my friend’s list.
Oh! I do have an update. I saw Stardust last night. I am certain I will purchase it, and that is a rare thing for me to say. I enjoyed it very much.
Charlie Cox is very appealing as the main character, and Kate Magowan? Full. Of. Yum.

Oh, well imagine; as I’m pacing the pews in a church corridor,
and I can’t help but to hear, no I can’t help but to hear an exchanging of words.
“What a beautiful wedding!, What a beautiful wedding!” says a bridesmaid to a waiter.
“Ah yes, but what a shame, what a shame, the poor groom’s bride is a whore.”I chimed in with a “Haven’t you people ever heard of closing the god damn door?!”
No, it’s much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poise and rationality.

This is such a peculiar song. Whenever it comes on, I go through a range of thoughts, but primarily it’s “and you thought everything’s been sung about before. Clearly there are niches of human emotion not yet explored.”
The Decemberists, also, make me feel that way – they write stories that remind me that not everything has yet been sung.

I love the Post Secret video. I particularly love the quote of Frank (the guy compiling postsecret.com), “There are those secrets we keep from others, and there are those we keep from ourselves.” The latter are the ones that really kill.
I had a dream where I was in the middle of a large outdoor party in the day, and I don’t know who all was there, (‘cept Jane), and we were all playing Spades. They put a ‘new guy’ in our group opposite me, and I was trying to break the ice a little when I started to wake up. I remember thinking, “… wait, I just want to see the end of the round …”
I found my way to two parties last night, after I discovered the ones I thought were so far apart actually were less than a mile from each other. They were so different, too. I thought I stayed up late until I met the ConVo crew, and have since then been revisiting the times when I used to say, “Well, I should think about getting home…” at 4:30a.
Sewing
•August 11, 2007 • 4 CommentsRen fest is coming up, and I’m considering making some (inexpensive) changes to the outfit that Melinda so kindly sewed for me … uhm … seven years ago.
At least one of the wooden toggles needs to be relocated, and one of the sleeves (which consist of strips of black cloth, on the outerwear) needs to be adjusted so I’m not pulling on it with my elbow. The bracers… well, they need to be rotated as well, so they’re symmetrical, but my big problem with them is just that the material is too soft. It works, but I’ve been considering how I can stiffen them without spending a bunch on, say, black leather. Some of the metal rivets have come loose, as well.
So, a lot of work, considering I own naught more than an emergency sewing kit. *grin* She also made a pair of black stretch-velvety “tights” for underneath (actually nicely thin enough to feel a breeze), and they never fit exactly right, so if I’m going to keep the outfit, some day I’ll probably have to replace them entirely.
Two things I’ve never been unhappy with are my hat and my shoes. Of course, I bought them both. :D
