I finally bought a pair of cheap, rough half-leather gloves so’s I can cut off the fingertips and have something reasonable to use with my carving knives. I haven’t worked much on my staff since Midsummer campout, mostly ’cause my palms were forming cute little blisters. Nearly all of the bark (both rough and inner layers) has been removed.
I’ve been thinking about using electrical tape to sort of set out the shape I’m wanting. I came up with a photoshop version, of course, but I’m not going to try to print that thing out and wrap it on the pole.
This Toyota video is driving me insane. I think I’ll be suggesting a different camera for future work, the mpegs come out kind of jenky some of the time, and I have to convert them to AVI’s to get them to work.

Youtube has a “playlist” function, which seems like an excellent way to play new music while I’m working.
I’m still wondering exactly what is going on when I’m waiting for something to play in Premiere, and my task manager says my CPU is 99% idle. *knock knock* Fall asleep in there?
I hate when I’m working on a video and decide I liked it a lot better the way it was 30 minutes ago. Sometimes I can’t leave well enough alone. Oh well.
Sounds like we’ve got some peeps to see Potter on Saturday, yay! I haven’t decided yet whether I’m going to the lake with Anne and co. afterward, but that could be fun.
I’m glad I went to the chiro. I’ve been testing the twisting, and all has been well so far.

Covet – Metroid Prime 3 (videos)

I played Metroid Prime 1 with Deonna last night, and that was lots of fun. Now, I covet #3.

Covet – Super Mario Galaxy (video)

480p capable, widescreen capable … the reviewers say that this game proves that the wii is more than two gamecubes taped together. It epitomizes the creativity that wii games are supposed to represent (and is difficult to find due to the many “ported” games). And it has a two-player cooperative mode. I’m really looking forward to that – I haven’t had a two-player co-op game since I sold my Halo(s).

I had this dream where Ben and I were at a converted firehouse (huge and labyrinthine, of course) to buy things. It wasn’t ebay style or anything, but still, proprietors had temporarily set up shop all over, and we paid the fire department to get in and then the owners. I bought a bunch of random things, and stressed the the guy I was buying it from that I really dig Hoffman’s super sharp cheddar cheese. (Seriously, I actually proselytized my favorite cheese in my dream. What’s wrong with me?)
We left going down stairs and around passages, and on our way out to get our purchases verified, I lost Ben. I’d made it just outside, lots of people around… and I felt rifling on my bag. Some little toe-head (standing right next to his family) was the one responsible, and I grabbed his shirt and bitched for a little in front of his family, more or less just irritated and wanting to shame the kid.
Quietly, I said something to his mom to the effect of “nothing in here was too expensive, it’s just the idea of the thing” when he proved me wrong. His mom, sister, and I saw him trying to hide something and we smoothly took it back, and it turned out it was …
my raw footage tapes from Madonna University. Yeah, of all things. So I snatched them back and rounded on the kid (who had given a cheeky grin when they were taken back, and wasn’t being held anymore) and my voice was cracking with my incredulity. I shook the tapes at him and said, “YOU CAN’T EVEN PLAY THESE TAPES! THIS IS THE STUPIDEST THEFT IN THE HISTORY OF THEFT!” The kid was clearly bummed and said, “Seriously?” I stalked past the family and back into the firehouse shouting, “It’s like stealing a gas can. THAT’S ON FIRE!”
That’s pretty much when I woke up, kinda laughing at the sound of my words reverberating in my head.

This is so cool. It’s the pictures and the captions, see.
My day got better just looking at it. Also, imagining the sound of maniacal laughter, that helped too. Mmm, and pie.

blue_lucy and I are going to see the latest Harry Potter movie on Saturday (after we stop at camp, feed the horses and maybe ride them!) at the Livonia 20 around 2pm or later.
If you don’t think you’ll see it until then, or you want to see it again, come see it with us!

Beekeepers: I totally forgot to mention that Lucy named her pet rat Durga. Isn’t that just the sweetest thing ever?
I spent the evening eating chili-cheese burritos and watching Potter DVDs with benniferus and skyfire1228. I’ve been a bit too busy to upload photos from the weekend, but I’ll get to that when I can.
I’ve started a folder of tattoo images I really like for various reasons (lines, colors, design type).
My portfolio video is coming along well. I haven’t had any time since Sunday, but I’ve already come up with a few nice improvements.
My boss’s boss is calling me into his office in a few to do what’s known as a “deep dive”. Sounds kinda creepy, eh? It’s one of those goals analysis things, I believe. I have a few hardware/software suggestions to make for improving our product.
We’ll see what happens if/when we discuss that other thing.

I read the oreilly_radar, and in his latest post he said, “Facebook is an empty wasteland for people who have not climbed over the hump of use. For those who have active community within it, it is this generation’s Lotus 1-2-3.”
I find that so interesting because Lucy and her vet school friends use it all the time, and though I made one so’s I could look at group photos, well… I pretty much never use it. In fact, it seemed pretty bland and boring to me, and even restrictive.
I think he’s probably right, though – I don’t have any particularly active communities there, and so it is that empty wasteland for me.
However, one thing I did note: being on the Ren Fest group had me giving others the lowdown that the site was updated to reflect this year’s info long before anyone else knew. So, even now I see the kernel of usability.
